Hello,

I would lke to ask on behalf of new Linux users playing the Battle for Middle Earth series on your servers to please elaborate more on the progress that was made getting it to work correctly.

Following your official guide and using the provided game ISO and patches + game.dat works very well with wine/lutris and we are able to achieve online play via the T3A:Online Launcher. The problem that we are expeiencing is that the matches are guarenteed to go out of sync playing with Windows users while Linux to Linux matches work well with no connection issues at all.

Your official Linux and Mac Installation guide makes this comment:

People in this thread have figured out how to run BFME II and RotWK as of 2020! That's out of the scope of this guide.
This guide now assumes you use >Wine 5.11, which brings great improvements and simplifications!

Have these players achieved the ability to play with Windows users and if so how were they able to do this? It would be great if someone who is invloved could elaborate more in this guide as to the steps they took making this work.

Im sure there is an some adjustment that could be made in WIne to correcting this mismatch issue and it would benefit the whole community if we could finally sort this out.

I am willing to help any way I can and much appreciate the work put into creating this great community for a great game series.

Cheers

In an attempt to try something different I forked the Lutris installer to 64 bit to match the achritecture being used by Wndows hosts, but this didnt result in any success. Still has the out of sync issue with Linux to Windows matches.

Hmm, interesting. I do not know the answer.

Are you sure it is not the windows players fault? Are you sure they have the exact same installation?

Is this happening for BFME1 and BFME2?

If you can go online and play, then the launcher should work fine..

"To know what question we may reasonably propose is in itself a strong evidence of sagacity or intelligence. For if a question be in itself incongruous and begs for uncalled-for answers, it holds, sometimes, besides embarrassing the proposer, the disadvantage to seduce the unguarded listener into giving absurd answers, and we are presented with the ridiculous spectacle of one (as the ancients said) milking the he-goat, and the other holding a sieve beneath."

This out of sync issue has been happening to me and a fellow player I met in the discord. To test it out we played matches Linux to Linux which work fine, but every time he switches to his Windows computer (which he claims he has set up in the exact manner as his Linux install, and I believe him) our matches go out of sync. I also have not had one successful Linux-Windows match with anyone Ive met online without it going out of sync.

Im testing one other possiblity for why this is happening and ill report it later on.

I would like to get input from others who are using Linux in the community to see if they indeed have had this issue, but none have posted in here yet.

Ok so I performed another test involving how the patches are installed. When you use the Lutris installer it doesn't install the 1.06 patch, just the patch switcher which I then used that to install the 1.06 and then 1.09 in order. My hypothesis was to this time install the 1.06 patch first using the download provided in the T3A installation guide and then upgrade to 1.09 using the patch switcher. No luck though as this still results inout of sync matches. Back to the drawing board. I almost wonder if it would be beneficial for T3A to just offer a preinstalled and patched version of the game via torrent for people to just drag into their Program Files folder. At least this would guarentee everyones using the same files. Just a thought. The struggle is real.

Also making sure to replace the options.ini with the downloadable one VIA the T3A guide does not help the situation.

Hi, I just want to let you know that I can reproduce this issue, but with a Mac with wine instead of Linux. Multiplayer between Windows and Windows as well as Mac and Mac works flawlessly, but between Mac and Windows we are getting random out of sync errors. We are using absolutely the same files from patch 1.09 v2.0 and we even tried to copy them over 1:1 without success. Additionally, we tried multiplayer between Linux and Mac (both on wine) and get the same out of sync errors.

Unfortunately, I tried to configure a lot of things and still could not figure out how to fix this error. I suspect that there are small differences in the internal game state when it is run on wine instead of Windows.

I will keep you updated in case I find a solution.

Thanks for contributing. I also havent been able to find  solution yet but supposedly the new 109v2 patch is supposed to fix the out of sync issue but unfortunately it doesnt play nice with the T3A launcher quite yet. Im waiting for revora to address that issue and see if the new game.dat will indeed fix the out of sync issue. Ill post back here eventually when I can test the result.
