RESOLVED: C&C Online Tacitus Installer just doesn't install

Best Answer Ivan_Moscavich, 09 May 2025 - 10:16 PM

I figured out the issue. While the installs for Red Alert 3 and Tiberium Wars were not new (they are on a M2 drive besides the Windows install), they had not been launched since I installed a new C: drive. Relaunching both games once must have fixed the Steam paths and then the installer found both of them immediately.

Greetings all,

I wanted to get back into playing C&C with my buddies, especially the co-op campaign of Red Alert 3, so I downloaded and tried to run the Tacitus installer, but it just doesn't do anything.

I have both Tiberium Wars and Red Alert 3 installed through Steam these days, and when I run the installer, it doesn't locate either of these. It just installs Microsoft redistributables then closes, but no program ever even installs. There is nothing in any of my program files folders and neither Windows or Revo Uninstaller show any program with the name Command and Conquer Online or Tacitus anywhere on the drives.

According to the guides I see online, you're supposed to hook the games after installing Command and Conquer Online, but how am I supposed to do that if the installer doesn't do anything?

Any help is appreciated.

Regards,

Ivan

That is correct. The games must be launched at least once before installing Tacitus (because they write their installation directories to the Windows registry upon their launch). And Tacitus does not have a launcher anymore. It installs itself by adding a `dsound.dll` file to each game's installation directory, and loads alongside the game.
