I understand the issue with the hack.  I understand the people over at Generals online are adding a million features, and believe everything they're doing make everything better.

Now I've been forced to use generals online, and it's already giving me a seizure.  What was the compulsion for shutting down the Generals and Zero Hour server on the Revora network?

Hey there Chicken!

The decision to retire our services for Zero Hour came after we spend a lot of time discussing it internally.

After the release off the source code for Zero Hour and Generals and the subsequent birth of GeneralsOnline did we observe how they were doing and how the player base reacts. As we were personally not able to jump onto the source code projects as we are busy ourselves with catching up to years of no development. After it became evident that community efforts, tools and focus will change towards GeneralsOnline did we decide after working with the GeneralsOnline team for a while to accompany their big public release continuesly linking to them and then after a few weeks to retire our services so the community can move onto 1 unified and modernized plattform not only for gameplay but also for security and modernity reasons.

We wanted to avoid to have Revora, Radmin, GameRanger, Generals Online and god knows hamachi or comparable services all exist at the same time and split the playerbase amongst each other. For both Revora and Generals Online it was easier to retire ZeroHour and in that motion Generals and pass the torch over to Generals Online.

This way the playerbase gets to exist under one roof and community efforts and tools dont need to account for a million services.

Please please please please, I beg of you to reconsider.

Generalsonline is bringing its own playerbase, and that is fantastic!  But there's no reason the two cannot stand side-by-side, especially because y'all are older.  I truly understand the feeling: you are taking the high road and making the mature decision.  These risks are unfounded.  The key thing with generalsonline: they are changing so many things fundamental to the online experience, there is no telling if they have any stop-codon, nor any guarantees they will not fuck it up.

What was a solid reliable platform has now changed into an amorphous constantly changing and updated thing.

I cannot tell you how grateful I am towards everyone at revora for not just maintaining Generals online support, but also keeping the same thread and interface back two decades to when the internet was a better place: software was better, games were better, and were unpolluted by the incessant feature creep, whether that was for technical reasons or otherwise.  I have donated non-insignificant sums of money to your platforrm for the decades of happiness and comfort you have given me.

Certainly the open-sourcing of Generals can mean fixing certain bugs can be made possible, but these should all be relatively trivial matters now.

But please I beg of you and everyone at revora: keep the option open.  The playerbase will not be split.  Right now in my depths I feel like a monopolistic force is taking over Generals and changing it against my will (and many other's will).  I merely ask the option remain open.  That is all, even if just for a backup, and the number of players are fleetingly few, I beg of you, keep the option open!  Please reconsider!

Why are you being so negative?

It has nothing to do with being negative, and entirely to do with being cautious, and simply leaving the option open.  This somewhat reminds me of the CSGO to CS2 transition, where CSGO was suddenly (IMO illegally) nuked and everyone was forced onto CS2.

If one truly is great, people will inherently migrate there, and then maybe reconsideration can be made.  Right now, there's no other way to say it: I am being forced to use Generals Online whether I like it or not.  That alone leaves a very sour taste in my mouth, independent of how I feel about Generals Online
