Thanks
Whoah, the page actually loaded, hopefully this post will work.
What happened was:
There was a powercut and when the power came back on the modem (external) wouldn't do anything. So we switched to the BT modem that we were given when we signed up (doesn't work with our hub, so my PC in my bedroom doesn't have the internet now), this modem sometimes works, sometimes we cant log on, and sometimes it just cuts out. *looks at modem, notices lights are out*.
Damn, it's done it while I was typing.
*Reconnects*
Anyway, since this modem is having trouble we think that there's a line fault (ADSL, not cable, there's no cabal BB in this part of our estate) as well as the modem being screwed.

It's a real pain for me to do anything, since I have to reconnect every few minutes, it's a huge pain in the ass for MSN and it also means I can't download or upload anything to anywhere.
It's just done it again now!

I'm just gonna not try getting on the net after this post since it's gonna get me really wound up.
Bye, i'll cya'll when the damn thing decides to work again.

Maybe you should ask Santa for a new one.

Well, when it comes to writing an expository essay about counter-insurgent tactics, I'm of the old school. First you tell them how you're going to kill them. Then you kill them. Then you tell them how you just killed them.

My dad's purchased a replacement modem so the net works in my room. Now we just have to see if it cuts out.

It started 2 days before I started the topic ;p
Seems my last post was a kiss of death, the new modem worked for a while but then it cut out so we're back to pot luck with the BT Modem.

Well, it turns out that the Rope Lights we have up outside have been interfering with the phone lines. Don't ask me how, but that's the reason I've been given.

Sounds odd. I could imagain that the magnetic fields could interfer, but i can think it would go too far :uh:

Seems odd. The only way it would cause a problem was if your lights were running parallel to the phone line. Our electric fence for our dog could do the same thing, but as long as you cross at a 90 degree angle, it's fine.

Would the fact that the modem is plugged into a wireless nework hub make any difference?
Might interfere with the radio waves or however it works.

Shouldn't, Those hubs are designed to take that type of radiation, and it shouldn't cause any undue problems. Where is the hub in relation to the lights?

The lights are on the front of the house, about where the ceiling is on the ground floor. The hub is in a room on the front of the house. About a metre away from the lights.

A meter would be enough to dissipate anything put off by the lights. Especially if it's got a 3 prong plug. I don't see why those lights would cause a problem, but I can't be sure.
