How do I make a guard range so that if any of your units enter the area the AI will attack them? I know nothing at all about the WB, so any help would be appreciated

It involves polygons and scripts. I'd help more, but I just recently uninstalled Generals.

1st - on your map surface you need to define the area you want the units to guard. Using the POLYGON tool, you click a series of (points) the will form a shape. You will see a field that will allow you to name the polygon. There are some defaults but ignore them for now. Name the poly GUARD_AREA1 or something.
2nd - create a team under the teams screen. Teams screen will allow you to pick the units on the team. The computer will try to build the team built on the priority level you set for the team.
3rd - Write the scripting. The most detailed part but still not hard. Choose NEW SCRIPT, name the script. Under the if true tab, find the script from the drop down TEAM GUARD AREA or something like that. You will then change the generic unit to the name of the team. Change the name AREA to the polygon area. Hit save. Walla. Need more help just add a reply here.
