I think it can be a bit lower for some models - I'm looking at about 1K as a safer assumption for the 'swarmed' models unlike the forces of good model stuff. Or am I wrong?

I don't think your wrong, depends how good your system is. My numbers reflect what I know the system can handle. To be honest I know it's alot higher than that.

I've only experienced lag once. Prob just cause I didn't reboot recently. It appears to be very efficient. I'm sure the pop cap has alot to do with it.

For me, the armies of the dead create a lot of slowdown formy comp. Admittedly I havent got the best pc in the world, but I would call it moderate. I think that however is just because of the particle effects involved in them. I dont get any slowdown from lots of units.

I'm sure its easy to find out... just extract the w3d from the big file... load the w3d into gmax (with an importer naturally - 3rd age has the one I use and have at C&C Central for ren and gen) and run the polycounter. hell I may just do it right now. (havn't done any BFME modding yet, but I assume it isn't too much different)

EDIT: Seems these big files are different than Gen and ZH... FinalBig and XCC Mixer refuse to open w3d.big... I'm sure there is a program for it I just don't have it, maby I'll check the 3rd age for something.

EDIT AGAIN: YAY Reverse engineering... suprisingly I am slightly experienced in hex editing and cracking, so I had no trouble changing the file... and although Hostiles Tutorial did not say so, the hex code for "F" is 46. so you will wish to change that 36 I believe it is for 4 to 46 when editing in hex. now back to my evil doings of getting the poly count.

XCC 1.43 opens the BFME .big's.

Well, when it comes to writing an expository essay about counter-insurgent tactics, I'm of the old school. First you tell them how you're going to kill them. Then you kill them. Then you tell them how you just killed them.

My tutorial is obsolete. Though the XCC file is relevant. Good cause was there from the start. I just didn't use it. Obviously I'm not a genius. But Olaf is.

lol, too many responces, I'm still editing my old post... now this is the new post  although important information is above.

Seems BFME uses skeletons like Renegade did.

Cavalry polygons: 1034 polys per unit (unit not group)
Archers: 1000 polys per unit
Footsoldiers: 566 polys per unit - lol, I was a bit dissapointed with that one :)

Yes, does anyone know when BFME would start lagging? My PC is pretty good and I've never seen it slow down on BFME, but I'm awfully dissapointed about the polycounts and skin sizes after playing Rome Total War before... And the numbers of units too, actually.

The 3rd Age

My site has a link to GMAX. This is a free 3d modeling program that you'll need to make your models. More importantly you also need RenX. This is an add on for GMAX that is specific for the formats that these games use. Generals/ZH, Renegade, BFME.

Orignally is was made for Renegade so you'll see alot of tools for it. But you'll need to export your models from RenX in W3d format.

That should give you a start. Photoshop would help. You'll see many tools there also.

What you need is near the bottom of the tools section.
