Though still in the prerelease phase, it appears to be able to rewrite the asset.dat file. In short terms, this means adding new models to BFME is just around the corner. Actually you can already do it but more work needs to get down first.

Asset Builder Third tool down. Just drag your new assets into the open window and it rewrites a new version of the file for you. Be careful not to overwrite your existing file though.It is however quite irritating. I think I'm going to resort to doing all my dat hacking the slow and painful by hand route :(
