They're more different than that. It's more like:

Atheist: There is no god.
Nontheist: There is a god or greater power, but I do not know what it is, and I do not worship it.

@D and Kal:

Fair enough. I concede that point. But again...what would be the difference between a nontheist and an agnostic?

Atheist: There are no gods at all.

Nontheist: There may be god, but i don't worship him.

Agnostic: It is impossible to know if there even is a god.

Well, perhaps, but the two are entwined.

Like i said to Comrade Jerkov. Better to have 2 close options which people can pick from, than to have have 1 option which people feel does not suit them.

This is different. It's almost impossible to be one or the other. I certainly doubt anyone here is.

To be a nontheist but not an agnostic, you'd have to know that there was a god, know what it was, but choose not to worship him.

And even that would be a bit dubious, since you only have to believe, not worship.

Agnostic: It is impossible to know if there even is a god.

If this is right, that's what I am.

The circumstances that lead to (more or less) intelligent life on earth are so well balanced (piling up razorblades :), makes it hard to believe that all this is coincidence.

BUT, if there's a god (or kind of power, whatsoever), who has created the universe, it (he??she??) has to exist OUTSIDE of the universe, what makes it absolutely impossible to prove its existance.

QED ;)

Unless he/she/it WAS the entire universe.

In which case it would be equally impossible.

Well, I think we can be fairly safe in assuming that the uninverse is genderless, since gender is a product of evolution that came long after the origin of the universe (if there even was one, I'm all for hopping on the bandwagon in support of the latest physicist's theory, whatever that may be. Big bang, anyone?) And how exactly are we defining universe? Because the very nature of the word (the prefix 'uni' meaning one, for example. The word 'uni' can also refer to the spandex uniform I wear for crew races, but that's not really relevant. :p) implies that there is only one universe - it's universal! Therefore I really don't see how you can have anything outside of it. Technically speaking, life, the universe, and everthing is majorly redundant.

And just to throw in a little more of my own personal beliefs: I'm an atheist. Not a non-theist.
