I was talking to a friend from school about someone in my year at school who uses the same last name as me and a different first name, but his real name uses the same first name as me and a different last name.
Upon mentioning this to her she pointed out that she uses a different first name, her reason being (her name removed since if Zest ever comes back here he'll know who it is)

Her : h8 it lol
>Daz : wot, claire?
Her : yah
>Daz : y
Her : jus do lol
Her : its not me is it:s

She had actually mentioned this to me when I first got to know her, but i'd kinda forgotten so in the years i've known her i'd known her by a fake name.
I also know of a few other people using different names, or using their middle name as their first.

There's two points to this topic:
1) It shouldn't bother me since it's against my normal way of thinking (no matter the colour, race, sexuality, etc an individual is exactly that) she's still the same person no matter what she's called but it's really thrown me for some reason. I fell kinda cheated and I needed somewhere to vent. Maybe it's just me being annoyed at myself for forgetting that she'd told me.

2) Why do people use different names? It's another one of those things I don't get (drinking and smoking being the main others). Your name is your name, it doesn't matter, so why change it?

Note: I realise my two points totally contradict each other, one saying i'm bothered about her name and the other not.

Our names are more than just words, they represent us. Your called your name everyday. If you change your name, you can change the way you look at yourself.

“A rose by any other name would smell just as sweet” - that's fine for a plant or a pet, but people are different. Names mean a lot to people.

I've always loved my name David. I doubt i'd be who i am today if i'd been called Gary, Mark or Tom.

I didn't really change my name, but I do more or less go by JMoe now instead of Justin. I find it a lot easier to use, and it's unique. I only know one other JMoe, and he's my little brother, so that isn't a problem. I hand in papers as JMoe and everything.

Well, when it comes to writing an expository essay about counter-insurgent tactics, I'm of the old school. First you tell them how you're going to kill them. Then you kill them. Then you tell them how you just killed them.

i don't mind my name (simon) but i hate it cos its allways used for a psychopath killer or a gay prick. look simon in easenders, gay, simon cowell, gay psyshco, its just not fair. everyone either calls me si, or by my surname which i prefer being called by, ut if its mispronounced on purpose theres hell to pay. yea i know some1 who uses there middle name stead of their first they use jane or janey which i have to say i find weird
