I being a uttuer moron have made a rather big error today in buying the battle for macragge...

It's not as wonderful as it seems, you DO get a lot of models, but they dont fit together too well... you get what you need to play, in bare minimum quantities....

The rule book is ok, but not very good and the guide tells you how to play... then desperately tries to reel in more money for the already cash hungry GW....

ok, the destroyed aquilla lander and objectives and what not make nice terrain pieces, but overall I'd think very carefully before buying.....

the rule book seems small and half arsed compared to the big sexy hard back version...

true, true...

you could have asked a bit m8 ^^
My brothers have bought the MacCragge box too, my oldest brother took the Tyranids and the marines got ditched fully...
Nids army in it is only the absolute minimum and requires atleast 1 box of troops and a HQ unit to make it a bit more complete..
Rulebook is a thinned out version without any extra fluff and illustration..

I've been the wise guy, i think...
Bought myself 2 boxes of troops and an HQ right away and ignored the MacCragge box (yes the Marines were tempting, but i chose Tau ^^ )

The small rulebook is exactly the same as the big one, only smaller and it lacks the fluff and pictures. The great thing about it is that it'll fit inside a normal GW miniature suitcase, great if you're attending a tournament or something.

Hmm, well rucksacks were invented for a reason... :p

I have steered well clear of BfM, and am feel vindicated when I hear stories like yours (sorry mate!).

The lander is nice, but you are frankly better off getting it on its own through Mail Order (I think you can now; if you ring).

These big box sets are made to introduce new people into the game, therefore the contents of the box sets are never the best quality.

yeah I suppose... I've never played it before.. .thing is.. i've got the battlefleet gothic box set and the gorkamorka one... they both come with big books!.... The bfg manual is a beautiful thing full of huge, brilliant illustrations... this tiny rule book seems... well... inadequate:P

I know it's the same, minus the fluff, but it just don't have the same feel of quality as the others... i suppose im being an arse here... :p

oh well... this week hasn't been the best...
