This is an idea 343guiltyspark and I started a while back. It was where you submit a voxel, and the entrants download it and recolor/rescheme it, and post a pic of it, the point being who has the best-looking scheme on the voxel. The entrants rate the other entries, and the highest-rated entry becomes publicly available. Is anyone here interested in this idea? ;)

Edit: In the interest of keeping this thread organized, I'm reposting the rules here.

Ok here are the officials. Rules are subject to change.

Rules
Download the base voxel and recolor it to be the coolest-schemed unit of 'em all.
You can add your own little details, but don't change it into a completely different unit.
Post a pic of your finished product (a model shot from OS:VV or voxel editor, and a screenshot), but not the unit itself.

Judging
After the competition deadline expires, all entrants rate each others' entries on a 1-10 scale.
The entrant who has the highest-rated voxel PMs it to me, gets a prize.

Prize
The entry with the highest ratings will be made public at my site: www.freewebs.com/yurisarmy (and possibly elsewhere as well...)

Time Limit
Entrants will have 30 or 45 days to do their recolor.

Base voxel is here, submitted by Apache.

Hmm interesting...

...We really need to think of some other form of competitions since VGP is retting a bit run down.

So this maybe a good idea to start with :p

Plus it even allows amatures to stand a chance of winning

EDIT: Just had a thought. rather than just re-colouring the voxel, it'll be cool if you could alter the voxel slightly and add more detail, extra additions, change wheels etc but as long as it keeps some form of similarity to the starting voxel ;)

if something like this is started
i will enter....but don´t let MG be a judge ;)
if he is i only become 2nd again :D

another idea of me would be to have a vxlpack-gp
rules as always + you have to submit a minimum of 5 units :p (vxl or shp)

I posted advice and comments on every entry. Nobody took any notice of it, and made all the same errors in the following comp. If you spent time fixing the things I had pointed out, you'd have gotten at least one 1st... ;)

Recolouring voxels is frankly lame IMO. You'd end up with a Comp, yes. But you'd end up with a load of recolours of the same voxel. Plus, it involves more groundwork on part of the organisers who have to make/find a decent "blank" voxel in the first place.

A variation on the VGP theme could be to have a themed Comp.
Ppl suggest units, and then three get put up for a vote (eg, Tank Destroyer, Fighter Plane, Submarine, ect. NOT "Demolisher Tank", "Viper" etc), and the winning unit is the subject of the comp. Every entrant has to make thier own version of the chosen unit.
This allows more freedom, and produces more useful voxels for the community; Ppl who do not enter the comp directly can still join in, and modders can suggest units that might actually be helpful to them.

Though it lacks the freedom of the VGP, it might produce more useable results.

Whatever you do with the comp though, I suspect that getting a significant number of entries will be hard.

Either way, I definately won't judge anymore even if asked to; I'm pretty busy, and I'm tired of chasing ppl for hollow promises. :p

Just had a thought. rather than just re-colouring the voxel, it'll be cool if you could alter the voxel slightly and add more detail, extra additions, change wheels etc but as long as it keeps some form of similarity to the starting voxel

If it's like retexturing treads/tires/anything else then yeah that's good. ;)

Plus, it involves more groundwork on part of the organisers who have to make/find a decent "blank" voxel in the first place.

Only one person will organize the competition and submit the 'blank' voxel(usually the person who starts the competition topic), everyone else uses it for their recolor. We'll find voxels that are already bland and spice them up this way.

Some 1 makes a wrx STI vxl or a car vxl
we have a competition on who car modify it the best ( like modding a car but in vxl )

any takers might be interestin ( you wont have to do internals, we aint goin complicated for these ppl guilty )

we could apply this for a basic tank or anyhting
be very good to see who can develop the best ideas and concepts
I will see you 100 miles away
I will see you in 0% light
I will hunt you down

Hey that sounds cool too. :)

Edit: So far we've got 6 members in my idea. Think we should set up the topic for it now or wait for more entrants?

MG has a good point there about selection method etc. And as for finding units to mod.. what about the standard RA2 ones????? that way no-one will have to worry about who the original owner is since they will all be WW.

@ MG - I personally would really like you to stay and be a judge! At least then we will have an experienced judge of voxels. You comments are always ensightful, and who cares wether people don't take your comments on board, just don't give those people your advice in future. It'll be their loss :)

The entrants rate the other entries, and the highest-rated entry becomes publicly available.

There won't be judges except for yourself. The only thing we would need a judge for is for getting normals and finding the off-color pink voxels...

I don’t know if I should enter this compo, seeing as it’s a WW2 vehicle I'll have about a 98% chance of winning... (unless Gilbear enters  )
