Yes, and it'll only be done in 1000 years at the cost of several hundred trillion dollars. Get real. Will it happen? Probably not.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

People like this who only think about money is the reason why the human species is not evolving beyond its earthly bondage.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

And people like you who have stupid dreams that will never come true are equally as bad. Earthly bondage? Give me a break.
Have you really ever read any type of scientific journal ever? For all we know, terraforming could not work at all, or we could produce O2 in such low quantities that life would be unsustainable. Come on, you really think it's going to take four years of throwing CO2 on the planet to suddenly have Martians pop up? It's an unproven and extremely costly hypothesis, and it probably won't work within 1000 years.
People 100x smarter than you with multiple doctorates have tried to pitch the same idea, and have gotten shot down because of the multitrillion dollar costs and unproven technology. Get over yourself.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

People said the same thing about Flying just over 100 years ago, that it was to radical and could never happen. then two special brothers come up on the picture..

and I never said it would be easy, nor did I say it would be quick. It could take a generation, or even more, because you have to create what took nature millions of years.

Humans WILL have to leave earth at one point, Either from lack of remaining resources, increasing pollutants in the atmosphere, Or for a third as of yet unknown reason. The planet is not healthy, and she is not getting any better tomarrow.

And dude, what the hell is wrong with you? Why are you being so combative. Sheesh, Maybe you should get over yourself, since your the only one that seems to have the problem.

And people like you who have stupid dreams that will never come true are equally as bad.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I don't know if your blind, or live in a cave, But stupid dream? Flying was a stupid dream, Cars were a stupid dream, space flight was a stupid dream.

Almost everything we thrive upon today as common place, was at one time someones stupid dream that was shot down by the ignorant masses such as yourself.

So take a peak at human history, I'll be ready to accept your appology then.

Things are usually worth how much time or effort or lives have been spent/sacrifised for it. Victory over the nazi germany was obviously worth alot, imagine the effort and lives lost.

Now if to create a perfect world we have to kill around 2-3 billion people imagine how much this is worth, 1000 times more than the victory over the nazis. I mean the lives we'd have to sacrifice and the effort to do such a thing. Truly a greater goal! Makes one think eh?

Before someone starts flaming me i'm thinking about this from clearly phylosophical view in real lfie i'm a part of the flock as the majority of us and wouldn't support such a thing.

hehe, the mind of a pure capitalist: "if it aint been done before, its not worth the trouble until someone else does it...THEN we go for it".

the fear of losing money into some sort of project that might revolutionize mankind isnt gonna happen unless you have some sort of evil genius which is a socialist/communist which doesnt bother about his cash ^_^.

anyway, another question can come up of this: should we spend alot of money trying to make the world a better place to live by giving food and aid to the third-world countries and others(and at the same time, get exterminated by the wrath of nature), or should we spend all our surplus on science, trying to find a way to spread the virus known as mankind?(and perhaps live for another few thousand years )

on the very old topic of oil spying: commercial spying has increased on norway lately, and since oil is one of our major exports, i bet a few bucks thats one of the major spying targets. basically, Norway got a different opinion than america does on the extraction of oil. we rather dont want to use up all the oil that lies in the deep right away, because we fear that one day things might abruptly run dry(something we are seeing signs of now, with gas prices rising, and the prices for a barrel is up around 60$ or so i think).

the latest i read about this is that Russia is spending alot of time showing off maps which claims alot of the northern seas which have been contested sea territory by the norwegians and russians. there are some unused oilfields up there that we havent started to drill into yet because they probably was quite far away from any proper refining facility, it was in a contested territory, and we wanted to save something. basically, russia is going out and saying "this sea is a part of russia, just so you know, and we would like you to agre with us on that". and also, with the closer relations between USA and Russia lately, they might get support from USA that would give the Russians the ability to go up there, and drill out a reservoir that we thought would be nice to have in the future, when other sources are drying out.

(ofcourse there are alot of money involved in the fact that when other sources run out, norway is gonna get even more rich on their reserves than those who drained their holes too early. but the main thing is that there is alot of materials that we can only get out of oil, and if we dont have proper oil avaible, its not just an energy source we're losing, but a source of making raw materials.)

damn, thats alot of spam, but by the time you've read it it might say something :).

anyway, the thread name was "the end of the world"?

well, consider the panic that will rise when people start to understand that there is no oil left within a few centuries, something is BOUND to happen. if someone is actually getting any closer to making super-batteries or hydrogen engines is out of my league, but for all i care, those might just be "soothers" to keep the panic down. "don't worry, we got a hydrogen engine right around the corner, and coming up; the fusion reactor" :p

Nooooo! my beloved topic!! :) dont die :(

Surely one could think up of other ends to the world? :p

I heard there will one day crash an meteor or astriod on earth... prolly will reset the world by igniting the entire globe on impact, burning everything and then the smoke and all... it will become like Day After Tommorow, just then with a nice astroid for special effect ;)

Technically it could be said both communists and capitalists need each other to live. How ironic that would be lol ;). But i guess its true, there has to be a balance somewhere.

a lethal ebola-like virus spread by terrorists on airports? thats more like a "friendly" apocalypse, since it most likely would only kill humans. long time since we've had a proper plague here now, and plagues usually appear when the population is too high for the nature to control it, but we are 5 steps ahead of nature nowadays...

other ways for an good old fashioned apocalypse... hmmm, cybernetics might be the next step of human evolution, i bet theres a bunch of religious people who will fight that when it becomes a fact. you might consider that the end of the world as we know it...

Are we? I call it, out of touch with nature. Nature will eventually strike us where it hurts if we don't get back in touch with her.

Tell it to everyone else.

Anyways i cant imagine what more could nature do to us, its beyond my brain scope or something. Call me stupid but thats how i feel...

One thing is that everyone is on this spree to discover how to make life, e.g. all those "super AI" projects. Dunno maybe i just seen too many movies, but i am so certain that is gonna turn on us, because you can never fully control an intelligent being.

ARGUMENT FROM CREATION, a.k.a. ARGUMENT FROM PERSONAL INCREDULITY (I)
(1) If evolution is false, then creationism is true, and therefore God exists.
(2) Evolution can't be true, since I lack the mental capacity to understand it; moreover, to accept its truth would cause me to be uncomfortable.
(3) Therefore, God exists.

Whatever, Ali :ninja:

AI is indeed a problem. I hope it never comes to fruition. I'd rather have a zillion RA2 AIs that are boring than one that's super-intelligent and can waste us all.

Ebola won't kill everyone. We have contingency plans. Chances are the important people will survive it.
A meteor won't wipe out all life. Those that live in the sea will continue undisturbed as they have throughout all of history. They'll just evolve out onto land again. That's assuming the meteor's even big enough to eradicate all land life. Which it won't. God forbid insects rule the world. ANY set of creatures, but NOT insects.
