i have 3dsmax and adobephotoshopCSv8.0

what esle do i need to make a game?

what program? what knowledge? what needed...

what is the best language and compiler? how are they related?
i figure the language is the coder and the compiler is the final product like putting everything together to be a complete program. is that correct?

so what do i need to make a game?
i plan on first making a pac-man game. then a 2d side scroller. than a 3d game. and then sharpening my skills. and then whatever from then on

thankz

i am a complete beginner

EDIT> i plan on making seriuos games and having great knowledge

You're asking a huge question, which we don't really have the resources to answer. I'm one of the only people here that does game programming, and I'm fairly new to it as well.

Well, when it comes to writing an expository essay about counter-insurgent tactics, I'm of the old school. First you tell them how you're going to kill them. Then you kill them. Then you tell them how you just killed them.

Wow, this member seems ambitious.

I would recommend starting with DarkBASIC www.darkbasic.com i think is the site for the demo. I dunno where you can get full version from...

There are quite a lot of possibilities afforded by using this program, and it will lead you on quite well to other programming.

It also depends on what kind of game your making
FPS
RTS
TBS
RPG
Simulaters

Certain programs are better at certain things

making games is very time consuming and diffucult... I have written a Tic Tac Toe program and a Towers of hanoi program in VB.net... Both of which were about 2,000 lines of code. Gaming is a very difficult concept and I suggest you choose the language you wish to work in (I recommend C++) and then learn that language like the back of your hand before trying to make a game, make smaller programs and work your way up. I plan on going into the computer programming or game designing field when I get older, but I'm no where close to making full blown games as of yet, I'm currently working on a memory matching game... I may start distributing these minor games in this forum if people will play them.

VB is a pretty good language to start with. It was the first language I learned. I started there, and have moved on to C++ and PHP.

that guy has huge feet! as for vb, i tried vb 6 then uninstalled the program about an hour later, I found it a waste of time for me... I do most of my coding in C++ and vb.net I'd like to learn some visual c++ so i can ditch basic, but my one attempt at it so far was a failure. the model is not that bad... your going to ahve to skin it now :hehe:

iv used VB for a few days and i learn almost the whle thing. that deeply worrys me
which such simplexity i cant put any trust it... i mean isnt programming suppost to be complicated?

i too would abandoned VB but its the only thing i have

VB is a good starting block, for moving on to more complex languages. Best to start off simple and work your way to the harder stuff. Be thankful it's not Assembly Language you're trying to learn! ^_^

I am first to admit programming, even VB, is WAY over my head. But DAMN that model looks sweet. I'll be checking this thread just to see him skinned/textured :)

He coulda just said CJ. That's what most ppl call me ^_^

And no thanks Immo...I don't really have a use for programming. My computer use consists of basic image editing, obscene amounts of creative writing, forums, email and MSN. That's it :)
