What exactly is it that you want to know? If you are going to model and skin, you are going to need Renx and Gmax. Do you have those?

I've tried to use those tuterials but I couldn't understand a lot of it. I think it's more professional friendly then noob friendly.

I also downloaded a lot of the programs from the tools section so I have what is needed most likely...

I am also pretty new to modeling and skinning, but I just completed by first model change about 4 days ago. I used an existing model and put a new skin on it. Hostile really helped me out with it.

I'll try and help you with what I know though:

1. You need to open Renx and use the W3D importer tool to open the model that you want to edit.
2. If you want to apply a new skin to the model, select the model, then click the Renegade Material Editor.
3. Click the Pass 1 tab.
4. Click the textures tab.
5. Check off the Stage 0 Texture box.
6. Click the button that says None and find the skin you want to use.
7. Click the Display button on the Material Editor.
8. Then, click the Assign Material to Selection button. (It looks like a little blue circle with two boxes next to it. It is on the right hand side.)
9. Done! You model now has a new skin.

But, in order for the model to work in game with the new skin, you need to bind the bones to the model and export the model in W3D format with the skeleton attached. You also need to add the DDS skin file and the W3D model to your asset file.

If you need help with these, let me know.

Binding the model is only necessary if you are adding a new model to existing skeleton. If all you're doing is reskinning it, you can just export without rebinding.

Did you download the W3D importer yet? If you did, there should be a readme file that explains how to get the button in the program.

One question: do you need to bind if you are adding a new skin to a unit that exsists? Example: I'm going to reskin Lurtz to be Ugluck, yet use same animations and skeleton. Can I take Lurtz's model, delete the Lurtz mesh, add Ugluck mesh, and save under a different name?

Doesn't work that way. Sorry. You will have to bind the model to the skeleton if you plan on using it with all included animations.
