Hello everyone.. Im new to the LOTR modding community and have a question or two but before that I'll let you in on my past.

Ive done some modding on Total Anihhilation, Tribes, Tribes2 and now have a game engine called Torque from which I plan to release my own game/s in the future.

I'm interested in learning a bit more about BFME and figured this is the best place to start seeing how Hostile seems to keep things rolling here. I have been wondering every since I bought the game if there was a way to change the maxHeight of the camera but to no avail gameData.ini's settings dont seem to change anything at all. Anyone know if these settings are hard coded or scripted away in another file?

Also, I have been curious about how "modular" the game can be, I noticed "subsystems" being loaded in the default directory. Would it be ideal to add in a "mods" directory and call a InitPath within the sub to load up files? If so it may be easier overall to get drag/drop and play mods going well.

Thanks for the site Hostile and thanks for eveyone contributing to it, I hope in the future I can give a few things back.

Hi, that's quite an intro

The camera angle / pitch etc I think is coded on a per map basis.
Theres a thread here:

and here:

That might give you an insight into that. If nothing else, at least you can download the maps and see how they did it.

Thanks for the links but from what I can tell it only changes the pitch angle and not the height in which the camera can extend to. Being a pretty avid RTS player im used to being able to zoom out a bit more to catch more of the action. BFME is just to cramped for me as it stands.

Well the map uses scripts to do the cinamatics so there is no other way to adjust the camera level to the level you want without utitlizing that.

really? how is that possible? i mean, if that were true you would be able to zoom out as much as you want on any user-made map...

i think either you or me misunderstands the topicstarter

I don't know how that works for user controled stuff. I just know it used more map intros and shellmaps and stuff. I assume you could just raise the camera in general for everyone but that's useless cause you could do that easier with the above methods.

Hello. Did you ever find the answer to your question? I have the same problem, camera height is way to cramped for me. I downloaded something called "WSMaps" the other day but it didn't work. Just wondering if you found a solution for the camera zooming out further. Thanks for your time.

Neeeecro.
The last post was in 2005 before even my time.

The solution is done through scripts which can be added to the AI.

I'd love to learn editing scripts, I'll do some research. Thanks again for your time, appreciate it!!

Necroposting is perfectly fine if it's directly on topic, like here ;)

I know I was surprised since this is probably the most epic of Necros I've seen in a while.

@rholguin
at the3rdage.net there should be a tutorial for Camera scripts.
Instead of adding it to each map you can add it to an AI file like Multiplayer_Human and it should work for all maps.
