If Relic shows no sign to do a DoW v1.4 I will fix the Chaos prereq system at least for AI mod v1.3 or v1.4 just to show its doable (and to promote my superior skill ;-)). I already made it halfway through.

Stick with v1.30 as our AI works with it although the prereq system doesn't entirely. The Chaos AI is the most susceptive as it seems to want to build the Armoury. Sacrificial Pit, and Machine Pit a little later for no reason whatsoever. All other factions seems pretty decent although v1.20 is still the most AI-friendly. Sad that has to be mentioned but its Relic who broke the AI in v1.30.

I do like v1.30 as it runs much faster than v1.20 except v1.30 has that bloody annoying "Start Mission" prompt when yer just about to start a Skirmish game.. Argghh! Plus.. how to get the camera to zoom out real far like in v1.20? Hmmmmmm..

Yea.. stick with v1.30 for now.

Thats funny you hate that 'start' screen so much, I actually like it. In case I'm drinking a beer or something I have time to get ready once the game is fully loaded. You know, that happens alot.

Okay. Do you know of any good places that easily explain how to do things like replace infantry with vehicles, create continual-firing lasers, and rescale things? I'm gonna meddle around with units first then try to get AI accepting these changes, then work from there...

Yeah, sort of suppose that means I'm gonna try to do my mod.

The START MISSION prompt only helped me once when I was eating cake and didn't want to stop. hehehe.. But come on: YER SERIOUS? This is fixed in the game code?!?!!? THATS DA-GHAY ! ! ! ! Seriously.. whats ap with that?!?! You mean thats supposed to be worth an upgrade to? Gawd.. some game companies have a funny way of forcing some utterly assinine features on their customers. <sigh>

Malkor - all ya need: http://terebess.hu/bolha/squat/ (look at the bottom section!)

Palii put together an awesome list of tuts to help people get started. Quite the site!! Also.. ask your questions in this thread:

http://forums.relicn...ead.php?t=67120

.. and some will assist ya. Their are so many amazing DoW modders out there would are soon to be releasing some commercial-quality work!

AI accepting the changes is easy.. however scripting custom actions isn't but designing a mod and keeping the team focused as well as interested is the hardest of them all.

I'll probably be doing most of the work solo. The only thing I can't do is models/animate (At least, for a 3d game). I can do everything else, including music score and voice acting. That's how my SC mods get anywhere. Plus, my attempts to find willing modellers for any game have all failed catastrophically, so I don't have high hopes of ever getting that done.

Regardless, if I can rescale models, use the thunderhawk for a MOP (Mobile OutPost), and add new weapon points, that should keep me busy.

I shall definately check out the links and see if I can get started. Thanks for the help.

Modellers aren't a prob: I achieved getting modellers for both Tyranids and recently the Harlequins. Was simple really but one needs to be a good communicator. Did all that back in early June. Keep getting people all the time and may canvas again. Of course its a little luck to find a good candidate who will a) work for free, b) loves his 3d work, c) loves working in a team, d) is committed to seeing the work thru, e) loves Warhammer 40k !

Best of luck to you.. btw.. what is your focus for the DoW mod? A certain faction? A War40k time period?

As I said, my mod will be based on an original humour-based universe I've been writing for. It will be oriented around armor-based tactical urban combat.

My section on the starcraft fleet-based version would be able to explain more. There I am known as IskatuMesk, and there you can learn about two factions that will definately be appearing in the DoW version.

http://www.smempire....viewboard&id=26

Note those models I do... they are modelled in a nurbs application called Rhino 3d. They will never be able to be used in DoW.

Also note many of the specs for the ships are outdated and need fixing.

Gawd.. seeing those old antique shots of StarCraft made me cry: it is such the classic like the AoE series is. Truely, an RTS classic!! Love those tenticled ships. You'd fit in nicely with the Tyranid team as there stuff is truely incredible.

Heh. I've played few RTS's besides starcraft. The only three that match it imo are dawn of war, earth 2150, and the recently released e2160. Everything else is just dust.

I mod starcraft even now because I know virtually everything there is to know, save ASM. This knowledge lets me do nearly anything I want within the limitations of my tools. I wish to have this same kind of power in games like Dawn of War, which obviously have no where near the kind of limitations and simply look better and will function better, but with my autism I have a very hard time adapting to the newer, much more complex techneqeues involved with newer games.

I hope to change this.

edit: To be honest, I know nothing of Wh40k or it's universe. I simply stumbled upon this game, found it to be exceptionally brilliant, bought it, found this AI mod, and now hope I can one day mod it like I can mod my vintage 2d games.

DoW is so bloody much fun to mod, especially AI. So much is about to happen in the DoW Mod community and especially when all mods will merge down the road. It'll happen. Can't begin to tell ya the incredible talent in our AI team and all the other teams putting such a world-class product out AND DOING IT for the shear passion of the franchise! All non-paid.

We're hoping for some incredible new AI functions from the expansion in 2.5months from now. There is a fabulous thread about it not too many threads down from this one. Devs seem receptive but we'll see. They've been given amble time to export them into the game.

Well, I for one can vouch that Blizzard couldn't give a real rat's ass about modding. The war3 editor is a half-assed piece of junk and their coding is so messy it's a real pain to do anything. Everything I can do in starcraft is the result of the fans putting the work into creating tools. Many of these tools are better than official tools for most games I've seen. The fact you are getting a response from Relic at all concerning anything modding-related is unheard of in my world, let alone them actually doing something to make life easier for you. This gives me hope of getting somewhere, and somewhere good.

I've been wanting to mod DoW for a while. I tried to start a mod for HW2, but I got about zero community support and no one would help with modelling, so that died very quickly. I wasn't very optimistic with getting anything ever done for DoW, so I've just been sitting and waiting. DoW looks like you can do great things with it if you have the knowledge, but it's very intimidating for someone like me who's used to being able to jump in and do this or that.

For example, I want a large air unit that can be landed and turned into a firebase. I'm pretty sure you can do it using LUA, but the prospect of trying to do it is just... overwhelming. Even simple tasks, like turning infantry into small tanks and giving them beam cannons, or even making a sniper tank... it seems difficult. I have scoured the Relic forums for information regarding these kinds of things, but it's all jumbled up and doesn't help me. The links you gave me partly explain a few things, but not completely enough to give me confidence. I asked before for details regarding these things, but recieved mixed, confusing responses.

Are there other beta testers working on this? what are your thoughts on the latest release and/or problems & issues?

This thread has really lost focus unless we create a new one, I guess the code will be locked and is going public regardless anyways.

Still, I'm interested to hear what other people think. AFAIK this code is pretty darn straight!

Code is locked and solid. Just writing documentation so we can launch on the weekend (which we normally do). Mid-week.. meh.. weekends are better. v1.2 is royally solid and will bring forth our code towards the expansion when it arrives. Next release won't be as long. I want to see at least 2 more revisions before the expansion to 1UP Relic. ;)

I'm sorry if it seemed I dropped off the face of the earth guys, but now that I'm re-employed, and attempting to setup living\working stuff now that I'm done with school. In any case, due to my lack of time to commit to the project, I'll have to formally withdraw, though I do wish you guys luck, and hope Relic doesn't screw the AI over further >.>

Oh, and I'll still lurk and cheer from the sidelines >.>

Thanks Markoso for all the help! Keep coming back to see our progress especially around expansion time! So hoping Tacit got the message to the devs to export those AI functions. Would be a royal treat!!

Oozish - site should be back up but there is nothing new on it. I'll check when I get back if I left it up. Still doing work on my HDD but its no biggie.
