We even had working sandworms and carryalls, walking mechs. Pity the team lost interest =/
...Then I left the Ren community cos those jerks pissed me off, ACK butt kissers... and the server hosts ban you for shooting a mod, calling you a cheat.
...anyways. I still have all the artwork made for it. If you're interested. They are high poly though (well, we were making it for Renegade)

wel that's ideal then because the worms supposedly can't detect people because their footsteps don't make much noise
wheras a big fat tanks weighing much more does...
Sorry for double posting, but have you actually read Frank Herbert's book 'Dune'?
Sandworms dont have ears, which means it doesn't matter how much noise somthing is making. The worms find their dinner by the vibrations they're making in the sand, even the slightest vibrations. Even a single person walking on the sand would attract the attention of several worms in a wide area, so as you can imagine the giant harvesters rumbling along drive the worms crazy, which is why there's always a carryall on hand to whisk the harvester away at the first signs of a worm.

I'm (trying to atleast) modelling units myself already, quite lowpoly ones (+/- 500 atm)
@Dj Rowley: i bet that can be fixed somehow, it's not a real issue atm - i was thinking of some sort of audio warning when a harvester is full and some warning when a worm is detected close to it.. but that is for later
If ppl want to help out with a C&C Dune remake, then yes, i'll gladly accept any offers ofcourse
I have seen the movie and read the book(s) myself, and worms are indeed attracted by vibrations caused by anything, even footsteps..
But all this is for later, once/if the project is launched, gathering a team is top priority first.

Except the Fremen. They have learnt to walk arrythmically to avoid sounding like "prey" to any worms . When they *want* to attract a worm (to ride it!), they plant a Thumper (which is much more effective anyway).

Almost
Only the Fedaykin, the Fremen Elite, are trained to ride worms. Their Weirding Modules are cool to (guns that amplify sound into lethal sonic waves, fired by aiming at target and screaming various obscenities or insults through it)

I'm not planning to implement those Weirding Modules ingame however, because that was not featured in the original Dune2 game aswell, the Atreides Sonic Tank however will be in ofcourse... (I'm gonna give that thing an absolutely cool soundeffect once it's done)

Killakanz, you're thinking of the WW games and the Lynch film. In the books, what I've stated is correct. I have the title "God-Emperor of Dune" for a reason .
I'm fairly certain, I've read the book more than once!
Don't make me dig it up to prove a point, It's burried in one of the boxes, I dunno which one
