I was just wandering, i've found out all sorts of information about the Xbox360 but i haven't yet found out wether its backwards compatable!

Is it going to be possible to play games from the original Xbox on the Xbox 360?

It apparently will be, but only selectively. I'm not sure if this means that certain features won't work, or whether certain games won't work. Regardless, you'll probably be able to play some of the games like PGR2, Halo and Splinter Cell (i.e. the major games).

o_0 PS2 gave no graphical advantage over PS1 at all. They added hardware acceleration mode and such but it didn't work on 9 out of 10 games.

I've often heard it wont be back-compatible...profiteering.

lol! :)

Yer, PS3 is will play PS2 and PS1 games.

But in the field of compatibility, Nintendo Revolution owns all as they can play NES, SNES and Gamecube games, pure ginious :)

Thats not compatability.

Compatability is being able to stick the cartrage into the system.

All they are doing is, in the simplest terms availible, Letting you download roms and play them on a custom emulator inside the console.

And all they're doing is a damn sight more than the XBOX 360 and PS3 are doing.

PS3 Can Play PS2 and PSX as well as MP3 and DVD (and it's rumored it may be like today's DVD recorders and view jpegs etc)..

XBox "360" Arrapently ISN'T and they don't have plans for it to ever be...

The New Nintendo will be able to play all the previous games on their system, but like Komataguri said.. all it is a "legal emulator". I can play all those things on my computers..

And Kal... "And all they're doing is a damn sight more than the XBOX 360 and PS3 are doing." How so? If the PS was around at the same time, then sure it'd be more... but in terms of "damn sight more", the PS3 is the best system out there so far. If you measure "damn sight more" via nostalgia, then fine.. but if define it in console power... then hell no.

If it wasn't for Sony's revolutionary thinking with the PS2, None of todays consoles would care about backwards comaptability.

X360 qwill be backwards compatible, though they hadnt always planned it.. The problem however is the graph card.. Nvidea made some things so its had for the new ATI card to read all.. will probably mean you need an emulator on your 360, according to ATI

nVidia is forcing Microsoft to pay a fee for every Xbox 360 because they have to emulate nVidia technology to get games to run on the ATI ahrdware.

Also, not all games are supposedly supported, just the most popular

Well they said that because the PS2 had some issues with backwards compatability.. and if you use an emulator you cant always be sure it'll fully work..

I havn't heard of a PS1 game that didn't work on PS2.

Some DVDs didn't work, but that was an easy fix.
