You know what? I didn't like the promotions system myself once it fisrt released by Creator with Contra .03.. But after playing alot, I got used to it, and I found it's REALLY the BEST, and that's how Generals should be played.

A big differnece in game play is that I REALLY like it fast. I hate when a game is drawn out over 3 or more hours. I've even thaught of a dozen ways to make it faster and easier to get your base and army established.
Between now and the next polished release there should be very little new art work done. Instead the focus is on designing, testing, and fixing. the mod has always been so close to finished that its nearly criminal. I'd love to see this through to the end with a real community effort.

I will go with the no.... I agree with pendaelose !!! I like fast establish and hard win ! Like very fast and right astablishment for your base (get your buildings ready quick) but hard to penetrate enemy's base and rough battles ruled by main units and supported by the big guys the SUPERUNITS !!!! So i will go with the no...A big differnece in game play is that I REALLY like it fast. I hate when a game is drawn out over 3 or more hours. I like the promotion system,so playing against the IA,then u just kill and make sure u don't lose any units, then get superunits and new units then, LEAVE THEM IN THE PAST WITH WEAK TECH!
thats the very thing that turned me off the promotion system. I could tech up by bunkering my base, the AI got 0 kills, I level and crushed them without a fight. made the AI panzies. I killed 7 hards on one team like it was nothing.
it was little fun to hold a line without a good battle, then crushing the helpless out teched AI was no fun... It has to be hard to be fun.

They kinda mixed the reward system by making it more strategic in a sense that the choices you make is real important.

I like the promotion system, just need to be faster, and the AI must be better. Like Pendaelose said, the way it is now we just need to hold on with defenses until promoted, and then crunch the enemies!

I think that the only thing that needs is making the ai like pendaeloses version and then make levl up a little bit faster, plus make the ai lvl up more faster like you ! This could be fantasticif there are money making structures and units from the begining a lot of problems will be solved. i like the current level up for tech system but for it to become really effective a good AI is needed.

When it really gets down to it the Promotion system was never made to REWARD at all... it was put in to make people use starter units aswell as advanced units. I personaly believe that forcing people to use one or the other is a little backwards. I think the best solution is to encourage basic units by making htem more accessable and more affordable so that they are more usefull on the field. Only then you will see a REAL mix of units and players using both.

Also Drone Controller and Smerch are not super units any more. You can build as many of them as you want. Flame, Cyber as well as Stealth general will have new powerfull super units.
I know that the main problemm of promotion system is AI. Players always destroy more units than computer. So in next version computers will gain promotions 3 times faster. I tested it already and I can say that computers become much harder to defeat. They gain Rank 3 and Rank 5 simultaniously with you.
I made new AI for infantry general. He uses artillery in combination with infantry. I don't know how you guys will play vs him, but I can not defeat him any more. I plan to improve other generals AI as well as I improved AI of infantry general. So hold on

I agree about making basic units cheaper so they can counter attack level 3 ones by quantity. But its all about balancing

When someone try to balance a game for the very start it is good but in the end the game lose its point and the one unit has advantage ont he other and the other on the other.. a lot of handicap so balance issues must be used very carefullythe problem with promotions is that many times the first player getting level 3 will win.

The only thing left for the next released version is the AI????if yes then be quick i cant waitPromotion system will be slightly changed. Some units such as Smerch, Luna and GLA MLRS will be available at rank 3, Mortar buggy, Hercules and some other units will be available from the very begining. Money gaining structures will not require promotions too.
