You can see it's not new by the fact that they are reusing almost everything.

All the better, new bahaviors and conditions states. Why are we complaining. This is awesome. A new platform to work from that include existing code.
Exactly. What are people complaining about? It would be worse if we had to learn to mod a new coding style. Btw EA would also loose much time on re-coding the whole game. And why should they use a new engine to make the grahic better?

I just hope my 3.0 GHz, 1024 MB RAM, Radeon 9600 Pro PC will be able to play all these new games.

Also, from a business end, writing a new engine really jacks up your overhead on a project, whereas additions and modifications to an existing engine take less time, less manpower, and therefore less funding.
