This is ort of off topic, but this seemed like the right place. Ive heard many reports about BFME2, one being that it is a new engine, and the minuim required video card is an ATI 9600XT or equavilant. I also heard it was the SAGE III engine. Im a bit lost, and i really want to know.

Thanks :blinky:

It's NOT a new engine. It even says that.. they've just upgraded it a bit, added a few little extra effects.

You can see it's not new by the fact that they are reusing almost everything.

Nope, same engine. I haven't heard anything about requirements to this point.

All the better, new bahaviors and conditions states. Why are we complaining. This is awesome. A new platform to work from that include existing code.

Exactly. What are people complaining about? It would be worse if we had to learn to mod a new coding style. Btw EA would also loose much time on re-coding the whole game. And why should they use a new engine to make the grahic better? ;)

Because theres plenty of games coming out now that look 10x better than BFME. Just look at AoE III, RTS that looks way better, other games are getting to the point of photo realistic like Half-Life 2, and Elder Scrolls: Oblivion.

I just hope my 3.0 GHz, 1024 MB RAM, Radeon 9600 Pro PC will be able to play all these new games.

Why would you even mention Half Life 2? FPS games are always several years in front of RTSs in terms of graphics. The nature of the gameplay demands it. And you have to keep in mind, AOE III has been worked on for 3 years now, BFME 2, as far as I can assume, has been worked on for a maximum of 6 months.

Also, from a business end, writing a new engine really jacks up your overhead on a project, whereas additions and modifications to an existing engine take less time, less manpower, and therefore less funding.
