This defence isn't an ordinary one, you must first garrison it for it to attack, the reason being is when garrisoned, it become a perfect defence, it both burns infantry and damages vehicles heavily with its Depleted Uranium Phosphide based shells, yes phosphide that's what will give the shells their red glow and what will burn infantry. Since this is the case you can also clear the Gauss Cannons with Bunker Busters, while it's not practicle to use a stealth fighter to clear them, nothing else can. Oh and at a hefty price of 2100, and a drain of 6 power they are a drain on your economy, but with the ability to hit aircraft and kill them with a single burst of two shells, it also makes for a very deadly AA defence. Infantry get burned as it passes by, it does ambient damage, and enough flame damage to kill infantry very quickly, yet not enough to kill vehicles quickly, so to kill infantry you have to shoot behind them with this structure, so you had better back it up with bunkers. Oh and bunkers wont be as strong for the nuclear general, they will only hold 4 infantry, and will have an all new look. So I present to you the Gauss Cannon.

But I still think a USA gen needs a railgun defense.
FYI, here's a tech explanation on the difference between a gauss cannon and railgun:
A gauss rifle is a series of magnets along a barrell. (DU bullets will work as long as it has a shell made of iron, nickel or cobalt, even if it drops out as soon as it leaves the barrell.) All magnets in front of the bullet turn on, and as the bullet passes one it turns off so it doesn't slow it down. It requires a moderately complex computer, but China seems to be teh computer expert in this game.
A rail gun uses a pair of metal rails and holds the projectile tightly between them. Electricity is run through the two rails and the projectile. This creates a powerful magnetic field around the projectile and rails. The field is only behind the projectile because electricity would take the shortest route instead of running up the entire rail, so the shell is propelled by a moving magnetic field. (No iron is required here, the electricity creates the magnetic field as long as the shell conducts electricity).
The USA should get the rail gun turret to match the Chinese gauss turret. Either that or move the gauss turret to the USA and give China a really big gun.
Do flashbangs, toxins and fire still clear out the building?

BTW, maybe the power behind the firebase variants can be upped a bit and they could require some people in them to work to balance things. Maybe the enemy can garrison a gauss gun or firebase and capture it that way.

About the Railgun: well, you must remember that that was a show, and real railguns are the size of small houses.

@ Sniper, I don't actually have cable, or any channels.

Anyway, a railgun requires constant maintenance because the magnetic field pushes teh rails apart, so the construction is expensive. As for gauss rifles, I think there is a way to make it work without a computer. It has something to do with the resistance increasing for magnets behind the bullet so they would automatically shut off. I didn't really understand how that worked without a computer.

And I saw that episode of Atlantis. The air raid on the city was friggin sweet. WWII style with all the tracers flying through the sky and the occasional SAM coming up from the city with drones flying around.
Those rail guns actually look pretty human made. When you think about it, they are battle ready. They're just pretty expensive to maintain and all, which is why we just keep MGs. However, I loved those guns.
