What I find most worrying is that you get pilots who disobey their IFFs and visual acquisitions and still point their A-10's Vulcan on British vehicles flying a Union Jack. I'd hardly say that was pilot error.

I'd feel safest actually piloting the craft, that way I'm either not being shot at at all, or I'm doing the shooting.

Still, that aside, what Spencer said makes some sense, but as AG said...you get draftees, you get rookies. Not everyone is a battle-hardened veteran. They get old. They quit the forces. They get injured or dead. An army must therefore rely on training, numbers, firepower, technology or a combination. Anyone who knows the US or British armies, you know they're getting smaller in numbers, shrinking like a raisin from a grape, but they're getting far more technologically advanced. Plus, one also has to take into account their ability to deploy on their intended target.

Let's imagine a war scenario where the USA are attacked. I have to concur with Spencer that the invaders, no matter who they are, wouldn't get five yards in without reducing half the nation to glass first. The continent is a natural fortress, totally isolated and surrounded by water, with every possible terrain type save for Antarctic wastes (and even then it comes pretty damn close). That's before we even got to the logistical superiority of US arms...the only key to victory would be to nuke the nation flat before you invaded...and if you did that, what'd be the point in conquering it?

And to bring this back onto the topic of airstrikes...F-22s, S-37's or any other fighter jet isn't going to win the air war. It's going to be bombers and ground strike craft. The fighters are just the supporting planes, designed solely to shoot down enemy bombers, or to stop them getting shot down. Multi-role aircraft are nowhere as effective as more specialised. For a kick-off, they can't carry the ordnance to destroy enough targets...

Of course america would have superior technology, terrain advantage but honestly armies around the world mainly use american stuff anyway.

Also i doubt people would be that stupid and use nukes.

Lol ! Defeating americans is very easy, just make em an embargo on the stuff that are making in asiatic countries... I mean : If japan, china and taiwan were made an embargo on the US, then in about 1-2 months the US would be fleeing to other countries, i have read many books... and believe me i know many many many things about these stuff !

You guys are idiots. We have the Strategic Petroleum Reserve and allies all over the world. In the event of a physical blockade, any nation in the world would be hard pressed to take out just our Atlantic Submarine Fleet with their entire blue water navy.
F-22s and S-37s don't win wars, A10s and F-16s do. It's the job of the F-15C right now to support those strike aircraft, and then moving on to bombers (However I'm purposely staying at a lower echelon, because as you move up you have to go through operational HQs, staff officers, and a whole bunch of crap).

Furthermore, anyone who thinks that they can take on the United States is welcome to try. The only one with a chance in hell would have been Nazi Germany in 1940, and they'd probably have had to put a stop to all offensive operations and wait until 1945 at least, after completing a successful Sealion. The only country with a small chance of doing so would be one with many, many, many assault ships, much like the United States and its entire Marine Corps and transport and heavy lift command, as well as the best airborne corps in the world.
About Mexico, they fall far within our sphere of influence. If anyone invades them, they're calling the US (Not to mention the conferences during 1936 solidified the fact that in the event of any foreign threat in the Americas, the United States would intervene to protect its interests). Anyone starts getting too close to Mexico? The US is calling them, kindly telling them to get the fuck off their lawn, and then in the event of non-compliance, kindly delivering several hundred notes of protest and cessation of trade, not to mention the embargo of the country by all the members of NATO.

One inarguable fact is that China will be worlds biggest economic superpower in about 40 years time.
