1. Vehicles were procured to evacuate those who could not evacuate.
2. People had not looted and fired on police stations.
3. People had not set fire to buildings.
4. The city of New Orleans had been prepared for flooding from the Mississippi.
5. People had remained calm during the disaster.
None of these things happened due to failings at the lowest and highest levels, from the Department of Public Works to the head of FEMA.

This was a perfect storm of events. No doubting it. I don't believe people looted cause they are black. I believe people looted cause they either needed or could get away with it.
This was quoted by the US government as the largest natural disaster in the history of the US. There is a chance that New Orleans may not be a city anymore. It's not gonna go away but I think it safe to assume it will in the future have alot less population because of it's vulnerablility to massive flooding.
Let us pray another hurricane does not hit it this year. When structures sit in water for 4-6 weeks, the foundations crumble, meaning not only will the structures have to be torn down, many are very old and historical. Least of my worries...
To Lord Kal, your request to remove that image was very harsh, you could have pm'ed him requesting that he remove such an image. Or an admin. But seeing your an asshole you flamed right away.
Show some dignity and respect you arsehole, and take the picture of that dead body out there. I'm sure her dying wish wasn't to have her lifeless corpse posted on the internet for people to gawp at.
There is a polite way to request a change or edit. You do not have to attack someone right away. You could have gotten your message across with more dignified words.

People don't loot (that's stealing right? well my dictionary says so) because of their skincolour. That has nothing to do with each other.
Totally agreed @ Lord Kal, I have been too busy this afternoon to spot it before you did, else I would've said so.

Get over it. It's really nothing to do with race, but simply probability. I guarantee you that 5% of the 5% of whites are looting also, just as much as the 5% of the 95% of blacks in proportion obviously.
Also, Jesse Jackson's on TV trying to decry the government's racial extermination, claiming that relief efforts are extra slow because of skin color.

I've been watching on CNN them talking about the helicopters drop bags of gravel despite what they are saying it looks a preaty futile effort, when you don't have pumping stations working. My grandfather who was in the Royal Enginers and is now still working as an architect said the best idea would be to use a large floating object then sink it with explosives fill with gravel and pump the water out.

A lot less far fetched than you think, although I doubt it's an attemt at extermination, I can almost guarantee you that if if it was a bunch of white middle class people stuck out there, they would have been rescued by now. Also, Jesse Jackson's on TV trying to decry the government's racial extermination, claiming that relief efforts are extra slow because of skin color. laugh.gif

The problem with Bush, and most conservative leaders, is that he believes he's a master when actually hes a servant. The leader of a coutnry is just the highest rank of public servant - Bush serves the public, not the other way round.

Update.
Most of the major damage is being repaired.
Most of the major fires are controled.
This is kinda cute.
The purging has began but much needs to be done.
The help seems to be ever where.
Many are still missing .
But many have been united .
She has been united with her baby but I hope it lives .
Even the mosted love ones are united .
But many are still being looked for.
As you guys know I did not get to go maybe because I just joined 2 1/2 months but couple others from the other unites got to go and my family donated almost $600 (Mom, Dad, Brother, and Me) .
