Nyarlathotep started making a news exporting script for everyone here to use.

When you made a new topic in your news forum the topic info would be exported into a text file, which could then be included on your site.
It exports the news because drawing information stright from the MySQL database would create too much activity for someone just viewing the news. Too much activity would slow the server down.

Unfortunately Nyarlathotep could not finish the script:

it is all attached. I've added a mock invision board in the zip, so you can see how they work together. The script is ented on forum/sources/lib/post_new_post.php on line 346, if you want it to work with new polls, you'll have to add a similar hack to post_poll.php.

For the importer I was going to use the Magpie classes: http://magpierss.sourceforge.net/

Hopfully someone will one day finish it.

Can't he write a special one for TFH so it will put the news into MySQL

I could probably look at this sometime. I'm learning PHP and MySQL, so I should be able to work this out sometime in the near future.

Stino, the idea is that you do NOT use MySQL to show your news.

If every Origin site had there news read from a MySQL database for every viewer it would slow the server down. Exporting it to a simple text file is the best way.

The plan was to use a forum and text files.

Any bum off the street can use one or the other, but this was going to be the perfect mix of both.

hmm, but does it take more bandwith with the mysql database?
I mean you must load the file each time aswell, and it can't be that big difference can it?

I think I could take a look at it, but I'm busy until the weekend, so perhaps then.. But I have higher priority things, but since you host me I would be happy to help out
