I have actually seen and touched a T-90. The Indian Army has it.

What's the real difference between a T-80 and a T-90?

Just want so say a few things.
The Abrams carries a modified first Generation Chobham (IE, the yanks put some depleted uranium rods in it) and indeed is armed with the German Rheinmetall L55 gun developed for the Kampfpanzer Leopard (the first one, so it's old).
The Challenger's BAE L30 far exceeds the armour penetrating power of the L55, aswell as having longer range.
That page you posted above claims that there's some program that Rheinmetall would be developing an L55 for the challenger's use, this is bulls**t.
If you're looking into this best tank from a technical point of view, then Challenger 2 wins hands down. It's smaller than it's American and German counterparts, has better (and thicker) Second Generation Chobham armour and it's weapon is more powerfull and accurate at longer ranges. The only thing that the Challenger 2 can't beat is: Speed

Have you heard anything over there about Russia's new tank the T-95? I was just wondering what's new on that one, over the T-90.

Last I heard (a long time ago), from rumors on the net, that this one was in R&D and may not be developed due to Russia's economic situation. Personally, I don't buy that theory with Putin in charge, but that's just a personal opinion.

well the indian army scaled back its own MTB program so we might invest in the Russian MTB. we already co developed the Brahmos Cruise missile with russia and there is also talks going on for co develpment of the PAK-FA. So i wont be surprised to see russia develop the T-95 but it doesnt have the funds to do it on its own.

As far as WW2 goes i like the russian t-34 with its panzer whacking ability at short range...

but in the modern day i like the challenger 2

the M1 and the M1A2 are good in combat too but...

Hey, anyone been in a M1-A1 before? a soldier said I know a lot about tanks, which is pretty cool. I think I watch the History channel too much (Mailcall is awesome, I like when he destroys watermelons).

The L55 was designed for the Leopard 2 and the Abrams in the 1970s...and the L55 is one mean cannon.

It was designed for the leopard, not the abrams. The abrams did not exist in the '70s.

Nevertheless, the Leopard II and the Abrams do use the same main gun (version used by the Abrams was improved and simplified for easy maintenance), and both were spawned from the abandoned MBT-70 project, which was a joint project to design a new MBT for West Germany and the US.

It seems that western tanks are designed with a defensive strategy in mind. Large turrets that have a lot of ammunition and the ability to deploy in hull-down positions are indicative of this.

2 words to explain that: Cold War

Most Western tanks were designed to counter Russian tanks, and the Western Allies were only interested in holding ground should the Russians try something.

The Fulda Gap:

'We are not certain when the term "Fulda Gap" began to be used in military circles to speak of the prominent terrain corridor that runs from what used to be East Germany toward Frankfurt. Some of us remember hearing it in the 1960's. We do know that by 1980 the term was in broad use all the way up to NATO.

The core of this corridor begins in the region of Erfurt-Eisenach and crosses the Border in the Phillipstal-Rasdorf sector (the sector between our OPs xxxx and Alpha). From there it runs west to the gap between the Vogelsberg and the highlands north of the Autobahn. The broad corridor that begins at that gap and runs astride the autobahn all the way to Franfurt and the Rhine is known specifically as the Wetterau Corridor. ... (more)'

My faveourite is the leopard 2. And im not german and im not saying this because the leopard is my countrys main battle tank . I was always interrested in german armor technology. i Think u all know that in ww2 germans did not have as much tanks as armericans or russians did, but they were technically better.
This my opinnion plz lets not start to argua about that. Yes i know that there was the t-34 that was crude contruction but effective and russians has these tanks in great numbers withc finally overwhelmed the german tanks.
