Never heard of that. I have heard of Planetside. I heard it's pretty good. It was a Game of the Year nominee on XPlay for Best Shooter. I think Call of Duty won.

I kinda like the idea of an MMO FPS.  WWII had some pretty big battles, so it would work.

<{POST_SNAPBACK}>

well a MMOFPS is a good idea, I ment a game like BF2, huge battles, but in a fantasy setting, so one team siege a castle while other defend it. that sort of stuff.

*UT2004's Assault gamemode + mods, anyone?*

You don't need MMO for that. Just need the right game and lots of ppl on your server.

ok let's take this topic to the next level. Let's post not just the idea's for future games. Let's work them out :p
Ok here is basicly my idea for that massive fantasy FPS game thing, whatever it's going to be called. You know those clouded boring saterday and sundays? And then you get this great idea for a game? Well I do :p Then mostly I tell it to my brother and if he likes it we can really get a discussion about it, trowing suggestions to eachother. sometimes I write it down, never did with the following idea. So some things aren't as clear for me as it was and I proberbly change some things while writing this post.

Ok the basic idea is a game at least as huge as Battlefield2. But it won't be a FPS. It will be fantasy, more like WoW. So with melee weapons, archery and magic. The maps will mostly be sieges, either castles, fortresses or encampments. Something I just added to the idea during this topic is RPG-like levelling for your character. To make taht intresting you will have around 6-8 races to pick from, male or female. No classes, your class will be determined by your playstyle and levelling. So when you wear heavy armor but use magic to attack you proberbly will be named Battlemage. During combat you will gain experience, not just normal plain experiencepoints, iff you use a lot of archery you will gain more experience for marksman and agility like skills, you gain that kind of experience easier but it can't be spened on strengthskills like psycigue(strength) or heavy armor, neither for magical skills etc.
Everyone who played Fable knows the expression system to interact with NPC's something simulair would be cool on the battleground, but then determined by your class, like when you a stealthy character and like to slit trougths, you can make an evil, siniser laugh when your victim dies. When you got really strong, just strong, barabrian style you should be able to give a huge battlecry, and at the highest levels it should be heard far away ;) Unlike Fable you should be able to end the animation by moving, but the sound will continue. I think it's pretty scary to see a group of 7 screaming barbarians run towards your group of archers...
There will be like 4 sides, 4 nations/armies. On a map 1, 2 or 3 sides. With one side a civilwar setting ;) Of course their people who will prefer a faction/nation/army. These people can buy specific armor from that faction or get some tattoo's that are only used by that faction. You can also buy nuetral tattoo's, because what is a barbarian without his tattoo's. The tattoo's and clothing can be used to let other people see your loyal to a surtain faction, just like you favorite footballclub :)

Battle itself will have classes, you can choose to be trown at the stack, just mixed groups, maybe not organised but in front, at the action. Though you will die there soon. Or you can join a group that fits your class. Barbarians, knights and spellsword will be fused to infantry group etc. So will mages without armor stashed with the archers. This groups are to add a little bit of organisation to the game.
The game should also contain creatures for mountained combat, wolfs and horses on land and dragons and simulair creatures(griffins?) for aircombat. Of course creatures will be limited.

An autobalance should be enforced I think, at least a system taht you can set as a host to prevent one side to get all the highest levels.

I think a game like this could create some nice battles. Maybe a TDM-mode? Maps without objectives, just some spots taht are easier to defend. Hmm a duel-mode... 1-3 people against another group, fight to the death without spawning. In a small arena... can be fun.

think this is basicly my idea :) what do you guess think?

Sounds good. I like the duel idea. Spawning is annoying especially when the appear right behind you with granade in hand. :p

Ahh, so many memories... :p

spawning will be teambound. Maybe some sort of system taht disables some spawnpoints when an enemy stands to close to them?

That sounds like a lot of fun.

Here's my idea for a really big game, with some ideas 'borrowed' from yours. Yes I'm obsessed with space.

Basically, its an MMO... game. Like I was saying earlier, you can start as a private and progress through the ranks to admiral (president?) and command anything from your own personal rifle to a massive fleet of starships. You can have a simultaneous ground battle and space war, with a key base you are both trying to capture at the same time. The idea is to destroy a certain percentage of the enemy forces, with the ground and space force combined into one number.

Generals:

Up to three Generals command the ground forces RTS-style. They can build a base(workers are CPU) like in Generals and put some factories so you don't have to wait for shipments from the ship. A transporter also makes things easier. Build a cloning facility and people can respawn on the planet instead of the ship(see below). They can also pay some cash to create more troops(CPU) and they will obey orders unquestioningly.

Admirals:

Only one Admiral per team. They command the space fleet. It's similar to the ground-based generals (who are probably actually in the ship) but, obviously, you command space forces. Also, the fight takes place on a few 'levels' instead of one flat plane like most RTS games so ships have more up and down freedom. You can build and launch a squadron of fighters to go kill something, or build a shipyard to get a new ship to replace the destroyer they just blew up. There are also resources in asteroids.

Empty fighters always just sit in the fighter racks, free for the taking. They can be built in the ship for a small fee or, for a slightly larger fee, come with a pilot.

Human (non-CPU) Troops:

The Generals can give anyone on the planet orders. These people can choose to disobey them, but that tends to drop your rank. (A General can choose to override that if your move was better than his orders). You can use your own money to order your own vehicle or the General can fly one in for you from the ship.

All sides have a total respawn limit, and each side has different methods (clones for humans and hatching for aliens) to get you back in once you die. If they run out of respawns, like in Battlefront, game over. You reappear on your flagship and start with basic weapons and armor. From there, you can take a post on the ships(fighter, turret, boarding party) or simply take the next dropship planetside.

Vehicles:

Vehicles can be built at a ground-based factory or in one that comes with the starship. They can be built empty for someone to take or with a driver already in.

Resources:

Basic RTS resource management. Most goes to the total war fund, which can be spent on something by the Generals or Admirals(if they are using their command position). A small percentage is divided evenly between the troops. Anything a soldier requests comes out of his personal funds. Anything a general requests comes from the total war funds. Anyone in command can buy empty vehicles for someone or a soldier can add their request to a factory's build que, and a little extra dough can make sure no cheapskakes can steal it before you get there because you have the keys.

Rank System:

You start as a grunt. You progress through the ranks as you do a good job. Killing things, showing off sharpshooter skills, following orders, etc. will get you that promotion. A higher rank doesn't really make you tougher, but it does unlock new abilities ad equipment. Want to fly that F-901 that keeps taunting you from the docking bay? You need to get to Lieutenant and go through Air Force training. To be a bridge officer on a ship, you have to have a certain amount of time working on a ship. To be a general, you have to have a certain amount of time commanding a squad first.

Free-form:

Ranks are disregarded. Everything is available to everyone. Set up a quick game, and everyone votes on teh commanders.

Story mode:

Ranks matter. There is a big galaxy to explore, help out, conquer, and/or destroy. Form a faction and rise to power. Someone that works for the original game companies is the leader of the entire faction, and they put out a big military move suggestion and gives everyone a week or so to vote on whether or not to go ahead with it. If it is passed, the army you are about to attack is notified so they can call all of their players on. A single clock runs the entire game, and all references to time are made to that clock.

I beg to differ. DX was great because it had a plotline. MMOs have none, and that sort of defeats the purpose of RPGs for me. They are supposed to tell epic tales, not just hack and slash everything.

Also, pokemon SUCKED worse than ANY game I've ever played ever. Except maybe Constructor.
