i got homeworld 2 today w00t
star wars warlords mod for it is great (super star destoryer soveriegn and executor)
an entire rebel fleet against my two ssd's (soveriegn super laser anyone?)
shows how easy it is to mod and what it is capable of

I guarantee, modding isn't easy. I tried my hand at modelling, once. Not my thing. 
The engine may be easily moddable. Assuming the modder has the proper knowledge.

Well since my Executor is very similar to the Star Wars Executor, we could always ask to borrow their model and modify it. Also, there's a Stargate mod for Generals, and they would have an F-302, which looks a lot like a Raptor, so we could ask them for help too.

What's that from?
We'll have to fix them up a bit, cuz the front right next to the cockpit is too flat, it needs to be swept back, other than that these are pretty good.
