Best thing I can think of is to set a bit in the database's topic list when you view it, and then mark topics as read depending on that bit. IPB does it a bit different but IPB's implementation is also a big buggy...

IPB uses a combination of cookies/database in 2.0x but uses all database in 2.1x. The upgrade should take care of the bugginess with that.

ImmoMan, so there would be a field called 'ViewedBy' listing all the members of have viewed the topic? Then you'd also need a filed or addition to the first field for when it was viewed. If loads of members view 1 topic, that list might become huge. As it's a single bit of data, you'd have to load it and sort it. Wasteage.

It's not perfect, I know. There are several ways of doing it. Mastermind probably knows more about it than I do cause he's worked with IPB a lot more than I have...
