I don't think you can say 'all American girls look younger than they are'. These two just happened to look younger than they really are. It happens here too, people over- and underestimate ages of men and women all the time. A lot of adults at musea and cinemas and such always thought I was younger than I really was. Same for my sister. Other people look older than they really are. It happens. I don't think it has something to do with your nationality per se.

No because this is the third incident where its appeared, first time when I was on holiday in the Carribean and then in summer in Surrey with my cousins friends.

And that suffices for the entire American population? You have to come with better evidence than that Ali. Like I said, a lot of people have thought me and my sister were younger than we really are. Does that mean it happens to all the Dutch people? No, of course not. Some people happen to seem look older to some people, and some younger. It's all about the perception of your mind, and what your view is of 'a this age person looks about like this'.

FFS, lay off the sugar! And, erm, these: "." aren't rationed you know...

So, you're bad at guessing ages? You're better at guessing the ages of those who you're more familiar with? Big news.
Unless you've had lots of experience guessing, have been that age, or know lots of other countries' cultures well, it isn't all that surprising. And the more different the culture, the harder it is to guess.

I doubt that Ali. For example, I doubt there are as much 'chavs' in the USA as there seem to be in the UK, I've no American ever even heard mentioning the word 'chav'.. Also in the USA the entire filmindustry is different, way bigger and has more status. There are more filmstars and more known artists there. More media around them, paparazzi, gossip celebrity magazines, etc. That quite possibly could affect what people believe how others should look, what is pretty and what is not. Anyway, the American culture is not the same as the British culture.

Jocks over on this side of the pond are sports dudes. According to wiki:

Chav is a slang term which has been in wide use throughout the United Kingdom since 2004. It refers to a subcultural stereotype of a person with fashions such as flashy "bling" jewellery and counterfeit designer clothes, an uneducated, impoverished background, a tendency to congregate around places such as fast-food outlets or other shopping areas, and a culture of antisocial behaviour.

Wiki is your friend. :p And we don't have a name for a chav over here. We just usually ignore 'em.

Anyways...
It depends on the girl. I've seen 16 year old girls who look 12, 14 year old girls who look 17, and so on. (It doesn't matter to me, cuz I'm 15. I can pick from either part of the pool, being in the middle and all. ) It's not something which happens strictly here, as Blaat said. It happens all over.

The opposite happens too, people thinking you're older than you really are. Just look at your president, he looks like he's in his forties when he's really, what, twelve?

i dont think you can steriotype all americans, mainly due to its size and stated. Ive bene there recently and California is way more different than Arizona for example. Some Yanks look younger, some look oldfer, same with the brits and dutch. In general you have 2 types of yanks: The slim pretty ones and the fat ugly ones. About 80% falls into the last category, except in California, there its a bit lower (though I have to say Brits arent famous for their looks either)

I just think you're bad at guessing.. My personal experience learns that its not really per country, some people are younger, some are older. Though it is a fact that Yanks are often les tall than Dutch and Germans for example, so that could have to do with it
