Quote from Neowin.net
Microsoft is planning to release, to the public, a preview version of Internet Explorer 7.

Dubbed "Public Preview" the release includes tabbed browsing, page zoom, tab groups, RSS support and improved printing support. The release is expected to be available by this evening (GMT).

Amongst the many new features, tabbed browsing will allow customers to manage multiple web pages within one session of a browser. Firefox, an open source rival, has long intergrated this functionality by default but now Microsoft is catching up this may lure many users back to the Microsoft browser. RSS is a heavy new feature of IE7 allowing users to "syndicate" feeds from various sites.
Microsoft is expected to deliver the final version of Internet Explorer 7 at the end of the year alongside Windows Vista.

Internet Explorer 7 Public Preview will be available shortly to users with Windows XP SP2 and a genuine copy of Windows.

Update: Microsoft have now released Beta 2 as build 5296, download below.

I had this six months ago. It's a bad ripoff of Firefox with a button for new tabs.

How much of today's standards does it support? Transparent PNG? CSS2?

Why do they even bother developing it. It costs money to make and since FF is opensource any good new ideas will be a FF plugin within a week. MS would be smarter if they shipped Vista with FF.

true, but they would find a way to "stamp" FF with something remotley Microsoftish, such as a shady link or button or suming if they do that, ( and apple macs come with FF i do believe )

It seems ok. I like the interface, but i'm sure there will be a FF skin that can replicate that.

If i was a teacher and IE was a students paper, i'd mark it 'Could do better'.

Me too. IE is functional and all, and for what I use the Internet for it would be sufficient, but Firefox is just less on the RAM. It also saves time clearing its cache as opposed to the humongitude that is the Temporary Internet Files folder.

It's also more secure, by all accounts. I'm guessing IE7 still doesn't have it. I love how they are making it to try and tempt FF users back to MS...why? Why don't they just dole out FF with Windows instead? It'd allow their programmers to work on a new project as opposed to solving 'features' (aka bugs) with the old.

Oh that's just because M$ is an evil conspiracy that wants to take over all computers in the world. Once they've done that, they will make Windows so unstable that anyone's computer will explode. Far fetched? There's already a Generals mission about it...

I had this a while back when beta 1 was out and the last leak which was 2 weeks ago. I'm still with FF the problem is IE is too deeply routed into windows which is why it can be exploited to such an extent, the other killer thing is the active X plug in situation which is just like asking for spyware.

Its a blatent rip of FF they even have the same RSS icon, and they have just changed the desktop and quick launch icons since windows 95.

They used the same icon to have a consistent experience between browsers. It's a nice way to standardize the icon used for RSS so that you can find it in whatever browser you use. I don't know if I'm a big fan of all of the new design, but the thumbnails of tabs looks like it'll be a neat little feature that FF doesn't have (yes there's a plug-in).

Or you should start respecting MS for the jobs they have done in the computer industry. Do you really think you'd be using a computer right now if it wasnt for Bill and his compagny. Apple sucked at promoting shit, IBM made a crappy thing called DOs. MS single handedly brought the computer into our homes. I think its time some people start to respect that. Windows isnt perfect, true, but neither is LINUX, or Mac or any other OS.

Seriously Immo, its time you get over your extreme MS hate, since Bill has made a lot of thing possible you cant even think of not having. I really hate it when people bash MS. Offcource some stuff is buggy, have you ever tried to look at how COMPLEX an OS is. And about the money they are asking: do you really think they're doing everything for F*ckin free. De development process of such as system requires years, no wonder it costs them money. Has it ever crossed your mind how much it costs to develop such a program. And dont use the LINUX argument, because frankly, the the guys who made all those Linux versions even got lesser lifes than us modders. yes OS works, yes it can be made free. But you cant make your living as a LINUX programmer, can you? MS created thousands of jobs world wide, single handedly brought the PC revolution and still everybody is flaming them for "wanting to dominate the world". They are just a compagny that wants to do what all good compagnies whan to do: making profit. Google might make enough money out of commercials, but do you really want adds all over your OS, cause I dont. So if you dont want it you'll have to pay for the development cost.

And about the generals mission thingy: "GENERALS IS BLOODY FICTION!"

just my 2 cents

Which generals mission is that?

And if we didn't have microsoft we would be left with apple ewww no games and hardware that fails a week after the warrenty ends or linux which dosnt work for real life.

Hmm... show time! ^_^

First of all, I don't care about IE. FF is much better and safer. It isn't mixed with the operational system, which is a great thing.

No offense, Daeda, but this is utter shit. If it wasn't Microsoft, there would be other software developpers who would develop a similar technology (or even better) of what we have so far. There is Mac OS, Linux (with a bunch of great variations), many cool non-Microsoft games, there are alternative to Microsoft Office, there is Firefox and other great browsers, etc... There would be more games compatible with Linux, which would be much better. I recommend you to try using Linux, because if you think that it looks like an improved DOS, you are living behind the rock. And DirectX can be replaced by OpenGL, OpenAL and few other things. However, because of this Directx crap, the vast majority of the games are developped for windows only. I know WINE might run some of them, but they need to emulate stuff, which obligates them to make the game run slower.

In short, I don't like Microsoft. They charge too much for everything and their products lack stability (except for the mouses that rocks) and they treat their users like dumb assholes, which sucks.

Ali, you will never know if that would have happened. You can't say that for sure. People would have come up with things. And computer hardware doesn't equal MicroSoft's software ^_^.

Im not thinking LINUX looks like dos, ive seen LINUX enough to know how it works. And LINUX doesnt work very wel, because its far too complex for the average user. You need to know quite a lot about computers if you want to work with LINUX. THAT is its main problem.

And perhaps there would have bene other compagnies, but there wernt at that time. How else would MS have reached a position close to a monopoly. Simply because other compagnies where even worse and didnt want the PCs in our living rooms. Apple sure as hell didnt bother.

Oh and I use both FF and OOo, so I do know the alternative programms. All Im saying is that MS simply got their monopoly because other compagnies where too lazy to actually get that computer to us. well, Bill Gates and co saw it should, and they became rich. Deal with it. If you hate MS blame Apple for not bringing enough concurrence, or the UNIX developers for not making their system easy, or IBM for making a deal with MS. Cause eventually they all helped MS gaining their current position without much resistance. You can hate your leaders, but eventually they're all chosen democratically. Its with all things. The direct result of power is that you hate it. If Mac had been the standard we would have flamed Apple and praised MS, mark my words.

EDIT: Oh and about the mouse.. my frigging left button responds like shit so im not to sure on that ^_^ still my mouse is/was godlike
