Back up all the important stuff, so in case of infection you don't lose it. Burn it on discs for example. Always keep backups of important things.

Yeah I would burn disks or use a tape drive as it can delete pen drive stuff as well.

Grisoft's AVG Antivirus is not only FREE, it also has had this virus recognised since January the 16th. So long as you're updated, your stuff is safe.

On a (somewhat) related note, be on the lookout for games that use Starforce driver software malware. It can fuck your computer up PHYSICALLY as well as on the inside. You think I'm kidding? It results first in slowdown of burning and reading of CDs, and this can eventually lead to physical damage as they aren't supposed to write at such slow speeds...it eventually just wrecks the CD/DVD drive.

http://www.glop.org/starforce/#boycott

On this site is a list of games that use this malware, and also a means to remove it.

Dont' play those games. Period :)

The ZA ad/message and something Rattuskid brought up on Sleipstuff got me thinking...

What if the people that sell the antivirus are actually the people making the viruses? I know it sounds like another crazy conspiracy theory, but think about it. An experienced programmer working for a company like ZoneLabs could easily write a virus and distribute it, and then ZL holds the monopoly of the cure since they have the virus' source code. Big cash for them. And the virus would be untraceable.

I don't think that, I do think microsoft release bits of code though to end old support for OS's like what happened a week after Windows 2000 support was discontinued, a specific windows 2000 flaw appeared very fishy if you ask me.

That is what I keep thinking because some of these anti-virus companies sell anti-virus to deal with the viruses they create and make money on the side. It is like a trangle that doesn't stop.

:) I thought the exact same thing this morning. I've thought it before. Don't know whether it's true, just another crazy thought in my mind .

I practically know it's true. It's just so obvious. Norton and McAffee make a fortune off the whole thing. They're clearly employing people who know how to code viruses since they attempt to pre-empt them. Chances are they release most of the bugs themselves in order to give reason for their products.

Microsoft has loads of security holes, and everyone knows everyone uses it. Chances are MS is in on it too. How many episodes of Linux Update do you know? There are something like 24 viruses total for linux.

And Mac? There are practically no mac viruses. That's because Mac doesn't need them. it crashes readily enough as it is ;)

I found something worse then the worm in my PC. For some famn reason I some how got Trojans(backdoors for people to drop viruses in) in my PC, I don't know how they got there either. But the weirdest thing is that I have install Spyware doc because I had in uninstalled for some time but after I installed it I updated it and let it scan my PC and it found Trojans, but it was the only spyware removeal that found it. So either Spyware doc is lying to get money out of the users or they are telling the truth, I am worried. :)

I wouldn't be surprised if it's a false positive. Is the version you're using a trial of a paid program? There are a ton of "spyware scanners" out there that will find a ton of stuff, but won't fix it until you pay for it. So you pay, it chews away a bit, and voila, next scan it's gone. But, odds are that it was never there in the first place. If Ad-Aware+Spybot don't find it, odds are it doesn't exist. If you add MS Antispyware to the mix, you'v got a very potent cocktail, with a lot of ways to prevent anything from ever installing itself.

Well, when it comes to writing an expository essay about counter-insurgent tactics, I'm of the old school. First you tell them how you're going to kill them. Then you kill them. Then you tell them how you just killed them.

:p, I find out 6 days later, I was like oh crap I should back up my files, then I was like, wait todays the 9th, nothings happend YAY. But no seriously, I know when something has installed itself, I don't care what it is, if there's an installation going down on my PC, I know ;), got Procexplorer running in the background, so I can even see if there's a .dll that's running that shouldn't be that's embeded in explorer. Only one virus has ever gotten me, that piece of crap that deleted everything on my desktop, although I removed the virus, all my desktop items were gone, and new icons for an Anti-Virus and Spyware thing were put there, along with My Computer, which wasn't infected anyway. And that was last year. If you ever get something that replaces your Desktop BG with a Web Page, move all the files and folder onto your HD, then delete the .html file and then kill the virus, anyway, I'm babling about something else, that's for the heads up.
