How can I open the game.dat file and edit some coding already in it?

I tried opening it with a C++ compiler once and it didn't work :p . There could be a plug in out there somewhere that can take a .dat file and make it readable/editable in Visual C++.

theoretically it's possible, but you must be VEEEEEERY good (and be able to understand jibberish code, like those guys in 'the matrix'). so, practically, no

It's doable; certain things have been done with it before (such as enabling an extra kindof or whatever) - but there's nothing nobody has managed to do that's worth the extreme effort required to edit a dat file.

Sounds fun :p . Anybody know what program/plug-in you would use to open it?

Man, now I look at it again, the original asset.dat looks like gibberish.

Ok, I see what you mean by jibberish code. I just wish you could get the actual text so you could edit it in C++...

In order to do that you need to decompile the game itself and then recompile it. People managed to do it successfully in RA2, but it took months and months of research and tinkering in order to get something workable.

And I don't know where you have seen edited game.dat files for BFME. Name a mod that has one, because I am not aware of it and if there is one, I would very much like them to come here and share their information with the rest of us.
