I had to give up my hair for the army. :(
Still, I can grow it back a little, then will have to shave it all off before going on another ex... or op... =/
good boy, remember OPSEC.
o_O you can't have long hair if you're in the army?
How would you put a helmet on with hippy hair lol? And in NBC attack hair is a decontamination risk so you have to shave it off.

At basic, most armies force recruits to shave off ALL their hair with bare-blade clippers. However, once you get out of basic, most soldiers grow their hair to a style...but indeed, it can't go past neck-length.
Besides, who'd take a long-haired soldier seriously? I find it difficult to take long-haired guys seriously at the best of times, let alone if they were wearing military fatigues trying to look smart and presentable.

A) Female genitalia
or
B) A religion that requires you to have long hair.
Sadly, I don't have either. So short hair for me.
Those who do get to have long hair must have it tied up tho.

Well I think it's insane. Another good reason for people not to join the army (apart from the dangers) , they even tell you how to wear your hair..
Well, it's not insane if, as Ali said, your hair is exposed outside of NBC suit, and it gets infested with smallpox viruses or VX poison gas (which sticks to more or less anything), and as a result you become a danger to both yourself (even before you take your mask off[/i] and everyone around you.
It isn't insane if the enemy are using dogs or a fine-tooth comb to hunt for any sign of your squad.
It isn't insane on parade, either. The army demands tidiness, order and uniformity. It trains you to be robots, not individuals. It can't afford for you to be individual, you have to be part of a team. Part of this deindividuation includes regulated hairstyle. The Army also takes immense pride in tradition, appearance and presentability. It's supposed to be comprised of the nation's finest...and just wouldn't look the part if everyone looked ragtag Personally, I'd vie for facial hair to be made disciplinary offence except when out in the wild. That includes moustaches
As said you can grow it somewhat after basic training, but nothing outside of regulations. This is an organisation that requires the grass to be trimmed with nail scissors for perfect uniform length. If anything is missed, somebody's gonna get fucked for it. And you just have to hope that somebody isn't you.

I still think it's stupid. No one should prescribe someone else (strangers even) into detail how they should look. The world would be boring if we'd all look exactly the same.
So if you had 40 seconds to get into a NBC suit and mask when VX nerve gas was coming out you would go I'm not having short hair rofl.
Prepare for one of the most violent deaths. And it adds dicipline if you did'nt have that in a stressful sitaution like combat you could endanger your own and other lives.

If you have long hair, then that will cause alot of problems such as obstructing your view, getting caught up in machinery etc. which have been stated already here. Its part of the job, and its part of safety more then anything

Now how would your hair look with blood and brains on it?
