Apparently they are going to go ahead with a plan, if no one challenges the decision, to destroy the last wooded area within 1 and a half square miles and build a high density apartment complex.

The problem is, this last bastion of woods...is right behind my house, and the houses of all my neighbors. Which means we are going to loose all the privacy and peace we have with our houses backed up to a very thick patch of woods.

The problem is not just the inconvenience to me [ and the hightend risk of unsavory aspects behind little more than just a chain-link fence away from my backyard. ] and my neighbors.

Its just one aspect of the greatest problem my entire city has. Overcrowding.

Our schools are over crowded to an extreme degree, We have homes EVERYWHERE, between 3pm and 6pm, every major road artery in my area are so congested that it becomes more parking lot than it does roadway.

Not to mention that this is THE LAST WOODED AREA in my area.

So tomorrow I am going to go down to a community meeting, Rally the troops, and try to take on City Hall and get them to abolish this idea of giving the land to this developer to mow down all the trees.

I am honestly sick of this overcrowding issue, yes I understand people need to have homes to live in...but we don't need to keep cram packing more and more people into already overpopulated areas, when there are places all over the country that could easily be developed with minimal ecological impact.

We already have a crime problem in this area, and jamming in 100 new people into high density low cost apartments is not going to help this issue.

yes my thoughts are not as coherent as they normally are, but I am just flustered over the issue, I can not stand this bullshit, and its not just because this time its MY home that can be affected.

It disgusts me every time I see them putting up all these new housing complexes, When by the time they are complete they don't even have but 3 out of 30 houses sold.

And shit, Just across the street from me there are 2 homes up for sale, and there is more still in the neighborhood....we do not have a housing shortage...I think we have a housing overabundance, which is why the area is overpopulated and overcrowded.

EDIT

The best part is, the City Council meeting that we are supposed to attend to contest the plan?

ITS AT 8:30AM IN THE MORNING, Its like they picked the perfect time to ensure the least amount of people showing up so they can push forward.

You have my support. It's not as bad here but I'd hate it if they'd knock down the woods for more houses...

I'm guessing you live in either Florida or Georgia, based on what it sounds from your post. I love both of those states, so this is a not cool thing if you live there. Or anywhere else for that matter. In fact, this totally ties into the OMFG thread, with the bad illegals coming into the country, and getting crappy apartments to run druglabs in and stuff.

OLD SIG
When history witnesses a great change Razgriz reveals itself,
first as a dark demon. As a demon it uses it power to rain death upon the land,
and then it dies. However after a period of slumber Razgriz returns
As the demon sleeps, man turns on man.
Its own blood, and madness soon cover the earth.
From the depths of despair awaken the Razgriz.
Its raven wings ablaze in majestic light.
Amidst the eternal waves of time
From a ripple of change shall the storm rise
Out of the abyss peer the eyes of a demon
Behold the Razgriz, its wings of black sheath
The demon soars through the dark skies
Fear and Death trail its shadow beneath
Until Men united wield a hallowed sabre
In Final Reckoning, the beast is slain.

Illegals, in this area atleast, tend to rent houses, and cram 10-15 people into the house, and Illegals are not the only ones who produce narcotics.

But anyways, yes, I live in Florida, I live in an area that's on schedule to become even more densely populated than Miami, and its ridiculous to give up what little natural areas we have left just so we can achieve the title of " Most overcrowded and unhappy region in the entire country! "

They're going to try to get a quorum and push it forward...
We have the same issue here. They're building huge developments all over but there are like 4 homes for sale on my street and the connecting main road.

good luck to you, I have fought to save the wood by my house being developped but lost that battle last year. my commune call the 200 planned homes "social housing", they are in fact luxury condoes designed to bring in more rich people to this area that is losing most of it's population because of the appaling public services we get and the difficult access to get here. I can understand the commune, even though I don't agree with them, it's a way of bringing in cash and people. :p

good luck at that meeting, I hope you manage to protect your neck of the woods :)

Well, good luck to you. Florada is really a lost cause in the terms of woodland areas. Move to one of the Carolinas, plenty of woods there.

I live in the same 4 square miles that I was born and raised in.

While that means I am also a participant in the overcrowding, That also means that I was born here...and have been in this area for 22 years now.

Procreation does not overpopulate an area near as fast, as suddenly ripping down a forest and putting in 1000 new densely packed apartments, Nor does it foster the sense of security or community, like one would have by being born and raised in an area and getting to know all your neighbors as you grow.

That's not the only problem, In these woods behind me live ALOT of animals, that will have NO WHERE to go once they are torn down.

Which means they will end up becoming nuisance animals, and killed..For what? because ignorant humans evicted them from their home, and now they have no where to live? Sounds like a Just reason for killing the animals to me.

I'd like to say the same except all the trees are already cut down here. Seems the Lorax (Dr Seuss) has failed in his attempt to protect trees here.

All the trees are in zoos, not literally, but if you stick some trees along the sidewalk. That's a tree zoo to me. :(

Yeah, and in the countryside we have an infinite amount of land but we can't build on it because it's owned by the aristocracy.

I agree that it shouldn't be owned by the aristocracy, but not that we should build on ALL of it. We need to preserve SOME greenery.

Not ALL of it, idiot! Do you honestly think i'd be moronic enough to suggest that? I'm just saying that we're supposedly a crowded island and people living on the streets when we have endless amounts of land being used to grow fine crops such as grass.

Lol, fair point. Your wording suggested we should bulldoze the entire country and build a car park on it or something...
