Transparent GIFs

Can someone tell me how to do this? Everytime I do it, my images come out looking like shit. I use PSP7 so can someone help me please?

I think you should use alpha channels.

Open up your image.
Goto Colours > Set Palette Transparancy
Next it asks you to lower the colours, my settings are on 'Optimised Octree' and 'Nearest Colour'.
Then move the 'Set Palette Transparance' window out of the way, so you can see the image below. Click on the colour you want to see through.
Save as a .gif file.

PSP, I use the Export => Gif Optimiser for best results, as it provides you with a view of how your image will look after optimisation and doesn't change the original image at all.

For even better results, I would use PNGs, as they've got better compression. Unless you're using the gif for animation, which PNG can't do.
