It has to be someone who uses IRC a lot already.

I could do that since I'm mostly online every day but I'm an absolute IRC n00b, stino is a better choice if he volunteers ^_^

If we had a network wide shout box, who would use it on there site?

The main problem i see is people saying "cool mod" and it appearing in every shout box on each mod projects page :ermm:

But they look so tacky, and generally have impossible to follow threads in them <_<

The example is poor.
I'd give ours an Origin look and make it user-friendly.

It's the conspet you have to think about. A box for chit chat, but used on every site to make it more used.

I still dislike it to be honest.
What happens when the shoutbox goes all awry with the content for example - it'll then have some fubar stuff printed out of check all over the network for plain view <_<

True.

There could just be 1 page with it on, and that would be used something like a simple web-based chat room. This saves having all the IRc rubish.

Theres an auto-installer, in cPanel, for phpMyChat.
It's good, but last time i used it i could not find a way to skin it.

I would strongly advise against chatboxes on sites, i've never seen one that wasn't full of shite. Or people pretending to be other people and screwing stuff up.

What about the IRC channel in a java page? Then you DON"T have to install an irc program but you can run in just in your page. (you've to accept 1 installer though for the java script)

There not so good, as we would need an IRC room. The lack of inderpendance could cause problems once it becomes well used.

I remeber being a n00b and rushing to run the first forum script i could find. A shitty little phpBB board on a tripod server. At the time it seemed good, but experiance shows me that it was shit.
I don't want to rush in and make a mess with something attached to Ori.

I set already a room up some time ago. I think irc is the best way to communicate. A shroud box will get full of shit. many advertising.
