I've decided i'll give important topics and question topics specail descriptions from now on, to save people reading topics thay don't have to. You will see this topic has an [Important] in it's description.

The following will be a hassle, but i think it could be worth it.
A new forum address.
For the moment lets just say 'origin-forums.net', as it's the most obvious.
The problem that jumps to mind is all the links to this forum will have to be re-directed. Which is not hard, but some people my become confused.
A good point will be all the off-site image/file links will no longer drain resources.

The address does not have to be 'origin-forums.net'. I remeber my old plan to have the forums like a network site, with there own personality. So thay might be energy-forums.net or some other intresting name. (some people may remeber the ES Energy Forums)

Maybe a short and less specific name could be used, like 'opentopic.net'. I'm sure some people will like the shorter address and it's more general, giving hostees more freedom to make it sound like there own.

With it's own name, there may (untested) be a way to use sub-domains for making hostees forums address look better, like 'GenDev.opentopic.net' or 'ReGen.opentopic.net'.

This would only happen with the release of IPB2, so that we can take advantage of the unlimited sub-forums and forum specific smilie sets (imagain ITS scarry smilies or TFH WWII smilies).
There would also be a huge skin change (which i will do anyway) to make evreything clean and easy to read, while still having some sweet colour schems and images.

This feel this will happen in the long run, so no use saying "don't do it".
Instead, give suggestions for improving the idea :)

I like the idea.
But like you said it's not done in some minuts. I'd take an adress with "origin" in it. Otherwise maybe people get confused. It shouldn't be too long. Maybe ori-forums.net is also good.

When is the release of IPB 2? (yeah i know it is already, but the upgrade script?)

Side note: I've seen you want much to improve origin, detail. Can we try to do this all the same day(s) (Perfection 6).

Ori-Forum.net might work, we'll see what others say.

IPB2 release is about a week away.

I thought i would be obvious that i'd do this in a Perfection :)

I personally like ori-forums.net, but that may create some confusion about it being not related to origin-network...

BTW: I found a old copy of my forum skin on my hd, perhaps I will try to make some progress this weekend.

The idea sounds right, but you shouldn't deviate too much from the site name. Otherwise people get confused as has been said. origin-forums.net sounds good enough. I like the sub-forum thing though, "regen.origin-forums.net" is a lot easier to remember than "http://forums.origin...showforum=145".

That should be possible. It might take a lot of redirect setups, with a lot of subdomains, but it should be possible. Not sure if the cookies will work though..

Well, when it comes to writing an expository essay about counter-insurgent tactics, I'm of the old school. First you tell them how you're going to kill them. Then you kill them. Then you tell them how you just killed them.

I don't like that one, it doesn't really seem related to the network at all, and seems like a bunch of random letters to me.
:/

Ori(gin)(for)ums
I don't like it either, it was just the only alternative I could think of.

I got the Ori(gin)(for)ums, but it just doesn't seem to fit in with the rest of the names, so I didn't like it.

I got Winamp and was listening to some internet radio. Thay said "sponsered by Media Cast One .com" so i typed "mediacastone.com" into a browser. It came up with a not found error.
Thought this was a bit odd, came back a few mins later and tryed "mediacast1.com" and it worked.

I have no faith left in complex addresses.
No time like the present to swith to a non-hyphen style.
