GCSE is what you take exams for at 16.

"vmbo" have their final exams here around the age of 16, "havo" one year later and "vwo" (what I did) a year after that. In the last one or two years of primary school you take this test so they can see a bit how smart you are and depending on that (and what you want) you do to the appropriate school. "vmbo" being for less smarter people, "havo" for smarter people and "vwo" being for the smartest, kinda a bit like that (that may sound a crappy explanation but I hope you get a bit what I mean). Most people go to vmbo as far as I know. Most people from my class in primary school did anyway. Some schools offer multiple types (either all three or havo and vwo), so you can switch if the level's too high for you (or too low). You have to have a vwo diploma to get into university, a havo one to get into what we call 'higher schools' (don't know what the correct name would be) and with a vmbo one you can go to certain next schools as well but I don't know their names. vmbo, havo and vwo are all what we call secondary school, starting from the age of 12 upto respectively 16, 17, 18 (averagely). We have no such thing as college. Though what you learn in the last two years of vwo or the last year of havo is probably comparable somewhat, but anyway. All boys schools are not gay breading grounds, they teach us to behave properly and not end up some gobby college lout that goes on to do media studies. We are prepared for a busines lifestyle with meetings and formal dresswear.

Ah, they say that then. Most of them probably will though. I'm doing a degree in Physics atm at one of the 'better' universities for my course. Guess where most people who graduate my course end up. They don't do any Physics - they work in 'finance', closely followed by those who work in 'ict'.

I'm slightly odd in that I'm doing a three year physics course, but then want to do a Medicine degree afterwards. Fun! 9 years at uni!

Oh, and I went to a boys grammar school too (pattern emerging here?) but I am also not gay... Although there was one boy who was - he went off to do jewellery design
