Just a few days ago the 3 betas were anounced for the products Vista, Longhorn and Office 12. You can now download office 12 for free!

http://www.microsoft...a/overview.mspx

I'm an official tester and I'm using the beta as my main OS and everything works! :shiftee: All the games, TS, RA2, YR, Renegade, so thats good news and it uses less RAM that XP! The public beta will be out very soon for people to get, I know many will try it.

http://www.microsoft...ec/default.mspx

Stay tuned for more info, I recomend you get this new office, its great you can make some good presenations that look really pro with the new graphs and picture features.

Had office 2007 installed for around a month now - it's prettier but basically identical to older versions functionally.

I'll install vista when I can be sure it won't stop... some things working.

It was a mistake I'm going to trade it in to get one with an ATI graphics card in. I will wait for vista to come out with the next gen laptops that like have displays on the outside.

256 mb IS alot, especially for any product. I think that is rediculose especially since the reason its so high is all about its fancy looks and nothing else. The same goes for Norton Anti-Virus, its soo memory hungy its stupid. :)

Recommended specifications are not minimum specifications.

Also Word 2007 seems to use 40mb of memory without me doing anything at all in it.

Though firefox in vista currently uses around 55 mb. 40 meg isnt that much imo. And also beta software always uses more RAM because it has debugging tools running and the code isnt finalised.

For an application for word processing I'd say 40meg is a bit much for instant memory usage, sure if you were opening a richly formatted 5 meg .doc file it'd be normal but 40 meg is a bit much for an application doing pretty much nothing but making itself look pretty.

And in regards to the vista look I pretty much don't see much point to it and will end up turning off most of the usless shite. I like my desktop minimalistic, the sticky notes could be useful though as I generally have a completely clear desktop with just a start bar.

I'm wondering... does this evaluation copy last forever? I wouldn't think so... in any event I've got the old beta still on my comp and it's fine. I'd like to know if this is lacking some features though, judging on the fact that it's a free release...

How the hell do you operate that thing anyways? This new policy of fancy looks would require most people to re-learn Word.

Oh and 40mb of ram whilst doing nothing? How much does it take when you do open some sort of big document in it then?

40mb of ram being used? Oh no, that just means I've got 2008mb still free. What a shame.
