actually even with AA turned on you should be able to do a clean selection in Photoshop...
either by adjusting the sensitivity of the wand and/or using the Extract function.
also if you render the background as a bright hue/color it will help...
...and for a smooth blended look just select and feather (3-5 px) then delete in Photoshop.
ok enough of my Photoshop Techno-Babble...
/hopes he didnt lose anyone

Yeah it seems blocky cos I turned off Anti-Aliasing, so that detail can change the colours if he wishes, a higher resolution would only make the image bigger or blur the edges (depending on how you look at it)
I might be misunderstanding you tho...

True, but you wont get exact clean cube-like edges, youll get strange mishapen surfaces. Try it if you dont believe me! Even with small feather it wouldnt look right

I can get clean cube like edges.
i dont know about anyone else not experienced in photoshop...
but i see what you are saying...
even if you leave AA off, after youve made the changes, just apply a custom blur filter to smooth out the edges or even better yet an AA filter in photoshop.
