I don't have a virus checker (my norton got uninstalled) and so I just picked up religion... ok maby not, but I keep an eye out and I never open e-mail attachments if I receive another e-mail with the same size attachment.

I've also been learning optimization of XP and other hacks to delete background programs that arn't runnign properly and what not, so I think I would notice a virus damn quick... but there is one thing that is strange, I've had a problem with WMP... it won't load, something wrong with the dll, so I reinstalled, and 3 days later the same bloody problem is back... has anyone heard of this before. I'm worried it may be attached to a virus of some sort, although if not, I'll just get a copy of the dll from my dad's laptop.

Just refresh windows that'll do it, no files lost and only waste 1.5 hours doing it. :p

Someone at DeeZire posted almost the exact same thing. In his case it turned out to be a virus, so take a look at the thread there.

Right something changed my Notepad shortcut to /systemroot/system32/notepad.exe (which doesn't exist).
Reading the thing DZ posted in that thread, I don't have the small Notepad exe I have the same one that the_kid attached. Same size and everything.
I've set my shortcut to point to the right place but do I need to do anything to check there's no virus?

I had similar problem today and managed to fix it.
Lemme guess, the IPHLPAPI.DLL is the problem?

I don't konw... because a virus ate my computer alive... I had to do a system restore from the disk today, because the system restore function had been killed before I tryed to load it (I just did a checkpoint 2 days ago!)

Anyway, my HD was wiped clean, and I haven't reinstalled any of my games yet, I"ll start downloading C&C Central tomarrow and reinstalling games this weekend. If I wasn't so pissed off about all this right now, I would probably cry, 80 gig/11 months of installing/hardwork/downloading/getting through campaigns WASTED, cuz I have nothing left now... even IE is being a bitch!
