I mean when he was flying around the mountain. Balin seemed to think they could have defeated him if they were warned earlier, hence they must have had some skilled archers

Playing games? Ah, you'll never be a good modder if you get involved in actually playing them!

In the Battle of Five Armies the Dwarves has bowmen, I'll try and find tha passage where it was mentioned....

here we go: "Suddenly without a signal they sprang silently forward to attack. Bows twanged and arrows whistled; battle was about to be joined" This is when Bard doesn't let Dains men reach lonely mountain so the Dwarves attack them to get through.

And Cherrick no army would fight without bowmen if they knew what they were doing, and Dwarves know what they're doing when it comes to fighting.

I'm so totally for dwarves with crossbows. It's a grunt weapon. Dwarves are grunts not unlike thier goblin cousins. Plus crossbows have more range and do more damage.

That sounds dwarven to me. And when it comes to modding, leave Tolkien at the door. IF not you're soooo limited to his interpertation. Even though many of his interpertations are the basis.

Just run with the idea, and leave limitations behind. T3A was founded on changing things to ones own perspective. Long ago I heard laughs that T3A wouldn't last because we were modding things not Tolkien.

After 10 million hits, who is laughing now? So much that I no longer remember the original fool who posted that at MEV. :p

Well said Hostile :p I think that Tolkien interpertation is good place to start but you shouldnt be limited by his words. Unleash your imagination when modding, thats a good way. through some ideas like dragons for isengard arent good at all. but i think that everyone know what i mean.

personally i don't need to the things in our mod to be completely like Tolkien has written it down, but they should be believable nontheless (like crossbows for dwarves and rhun cavalry)

I noticed that for late game Mordor isn't getting any new units and all the lategame units are monsters and catapults and I had an idea about adding Black Uruks for mordor which can get HA and FB, and they're slightly better then normal Isengard Uruks but they should come it battalions of 10 or something, it would just let Mordor have an alternitive strategy besides spamming ATs or catapults becuase they cant really use infantry late game.

About the whole crossbow thing..

You guys are interpretating the Dwarves very wrong. Tolkien didn't mean for them to be the chunky, fat midgets EA made them. Compare the Dwarven Guardian model with that of Gimli. HUGE difference. That is because EA didn't design Gimli, the folks of Weta did.

Tolkien wrote that his Dwarves were good at gathering minerals from the depths of the Earth, and that they could forge them into great weapons and superior armour. However, Tolkien also mentions that Dwarves didn't craft weapons of siege. They forged and built up grand halls. They didn't like machinery. From all armies of Middle-Earth, only Saruman possesed the knowledge required to produce siege weaponry on a large scale, and fully equip his armies with it. Dwarves with crossbows do not fit at all into the works of Tolkien, even if you ''look past his words'' like Cahik mentioned. When you look past his words you'll find, like I pointed out, that Dwarves wouldn't carry a crossbow.

Dwarves have been characterized by the Fantasy genre as only wielding huge axes and warhammers, crossbows, superior machines etcetera etcetera. While this might work for the generic fantasy world Dwarf, it certainly doesn't work for the Dwarves of Tolkien.

My two cents.

No fuel left for the pilgrims

ok, maybe you're right, but it's too much work to change the entire dwarf faction as it is now, so we might just as well base new dwarves upon the EA dwarves

I have a few new ideas:

1. to make isengard x-bows a bit more unique as a tier 2 archer, what if u gave them an ability like barbed arrows that we could call "forged bolts" or something?

2. For the elves, it would be nice to see some mirkwood spearmen, maybe give them the "elf cloaks" ability

3. Imo, harad archers should be tier 3, since they're elite archers

1. can do
2. will think about it
3. but then mordor wouldn't have tier 2 archers

as a matter of fact, i've just scrapped haradrim lancers because mordor has quite enough units and they don't add much
