i'm not even sure what kind of topic this is going to turn into. religion vs science is most likely a rigged race anyway. its hard to find out whats the better, philosophy(better than religion as its a bit more generic and less corrupted) or science. religion overlaps the ignorance we had back in ancient times, which now is being covered by science, but science can't cover philosophy all too much imo.
science is the physical universe, philosophy is how we use science to make the ends meet. be it through weaponry or medicine.
anyway, it still would be a strange topic. i got sympathy for science before religion, but i got sympathy of good-willed philosophy before ruthless science. social-darwinism/nazism is a good example of a society with bad philosophy but alot of knowledge about science... is that where we want to go?
some topics i would like to see in here though:
-
The Great Debate: stemcell research, is it murder? is it helpful for mankind? is it going to deteriorate our moral views on humanity?
- Nazism: science gone bad? society without moral values? human emotions, a weakness or a gift?
- The Brain: just a processor? what makes humans different from the rest of the animals on this planet? what flaws does the brain have?
- Ideology: sheeps moving with the flock? ignorance is bliss? making life easier for those with enough on their minds?
if it was a more teoretic background like that, it would be a bit more even race, but still the topics are still not really connected in a way that you can claim that one is better than the other. you can't have philosophy/religion without a certain knowledge of science. and you shouldnt use science without some sort of moral philosophy that stops you from doing alot of damage to humanity...
