If you are using the -mod command then the easiest way to get the strings to work is putting the string file in \Data\ ... it should work. Take a look at some of my more recent mods, such as the AragornII mod that uses a new string file. Don't use the CSF files. And don't edit the _patch103.big file either... there is no need with the -mod command method.

You did put the .big containing all your modifications in the "My Battle for Middle-earth Files" right? not in the main directory... just thought I'd ask. I know that this can all be very confusing the first time :) took me forever to figure it all out.

Head --> Wall

Argh. So I just deleted my CSF file for nothing ... and now my new added strings won't work, and I've been putting the stuff in the wrong effing folder? ¬_¬ Typical.

I don't suppose anyone has a spare CSF 1.03 patch file on them? -_-U

Put in the CD you used to install the game and right click on it from my computer and choose explore. On one of the CDs you should see the normal CSF file. Then just reinstall the patches.

I've got to run out the door right now, but I'll leave you with this: there are several threads (atleast 2) where someone knowledgable showed how to set up the .big file and how to get strings and such working... one started by me and one 3-4 pages back in the "Bfme1 modding" section.

Between that and looking at one of my mods you should be able to figure it out :) if not, when I get back I'll show you how to do it.

I've decided to reinstall the game. And yes, I've kept my editted INI file and .str file so they didn't get deleted :lol: i'll take a look at those threads now.

Seriously, this -mod command hates me. I do exactly what I'm supposed to, and it still doesn't run. I've put my editted INI file into a folder named "Mod" (In the INI file, now named HeroMod.ini, I've added my lotr.str).

my target:
"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Battle for Middle-earth ™\lotrbfme.exe" -mod "C:\Mod"

And it still comes up with the INI file settings in the root folder. Argh.

You should place all your modded files in a .big file and then link to that... I place my mod.big in the "My battle for middle-earth files" folder and then just reference the name...

"C:\Programme\EA GAMES\The Battle for Middle-earth (tm)\lotrbfme.exe" -mod mod.big

my target:
"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Battle for Middle-earth \lotrbfme.exe" -mod "C:\Mod"

Shouldn't it be:

"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Battle for Middle-earth \lotrbfme.exe" -mod MyHeroMod.big"

Then stick your "MyHeroMod.big" into the "My Battle for Middle-earth Files" folder in Application Data. Assuming this is BFME 1. If it's bfme2 then I'm probably messing you up as I think it is done differently.

I think you are over complicating things Azrael. To get the mod to run you don't have to do anything other than: 1) put your new .big in "My Battle for Middle-earth Files" 2) Create new shortcut with target as above 3) click on shortcut to run :lol:

EDIT: lol, just read your post DLotS...I missed it the first time.

I misunderstood you. I thought you meant you I had to extract all of the .ini files I had modified and put them ini a BIG file. My target is still to C:\Mod, and it works fine. The only way I could get my strings to work was by adding the .csf file with the added strings into the BIG file.

I'm going to change it to the Application Data way, though. Hopefully that way I can use the .str method and not have my .csf file corrupted.

But just incase, can you tell me what to do to get my .str file working?

It works for me to just put the str file in the big file. In application data that is :p

You mean other than the Application Data way? I don't know of any... this way works for me so I've stuck with it.

Sorry for double posting.

How can I use a specific Rohan Peasant skin, since they vary every time? I want to use the female peasant for my Galadriel, and the old skinny man as Grima and Círdan.

And how can I make it so Elrond is summoned with his sword and not his bow at the ready?

EDIT:
Just found the old man and woman. no need to answer that now :p

"And how can I make it so Elrond is summoned with his sword and not his bow at the ready?"

Well you gotta change the Weaponsets and the Animations for this. I won't go into detail, but the things related to the sword have WEAPONSET_TOGGLE_1 after them. The weaponsets point to different conditionstates. See if you can get anywhere from by brief answer :p

See if you can use this code from Frodo.ini:

Behavior = LockWeaponCreate ModuleTag_ToggleToSwordToStart
		SlotToLock = PRIMARY
	End

That would save you from editing all the animations and stuff.

I would think that measn you have an = somewhere with nothing or the wrong thing after it. Does it point you to any specific line?
