Yeah updating to Windows XP from DOS 2.11 might help a bit.

You really didn't give enough information for anyone to make a distinction of a hardware incompatability or Windows just being bitchy.

I wouldn't be surprised. It's a compilation, and as such their idea of quality assurance is to make sure that all the pieces fit in the box right. The rest they can conveniently blame on the original devs... which they fired.
If they fuck everything up by putting their logos all over it... oh well, they don't care.

Part of the problem is that they didn't really change anything from the stand alone versions of the games. Its all the same stuff in a different package, which means no error fixes, no compatability testing, and a whole slew of stuff that should have been fixed.

But remember, above all else, they're not bugs, they're features.

Oh, but in contrary - they do. Remember all the games in the package were made specifically for two cds, not one dvd. Since the geniuses over at EA didn't even bother to check that up and make sure it works, all kinds of funky errors appear; such as the soviet movies in RA1 refusing to play. There's more but I don't think I need to count them all.

You people whine too fuckin' much. A friend of mine has The First Decade and it works without a problem. Mission briefings work fine, older games play on XP... if there was a problem, he didn't have it. Neither did I when I installed it on my machine for fun.
Something else is wrong... you must be fucking up your systems.

If you own the first decade, then you are legally entitled to the games on that disk since you do own the license for them.

So I say, if they don't work, just download the damn games under the fair right of your one and only backup.

Its not warez if you own the game

That is a good point. Unless you own the game you have to delete any downloaded backups within 24 hours, or something like that. It's covered by legislation from 1999 I think.

If I'm not mistaken, that rule affects emulated copies of games stored on a medium other than the original. Also, if you were to download a copy of a game that was native to the PC, it would be illegal. Yes, even if you had the CD key. I'm not here to argue ethics and all that, because I don't believe it should be illegal, I'm just stating the facts.

You are entitled to one copy of the game for backup purposes. Since you bought what essentially is a game package i think you have a right to have a backup of those games.

The other trick is the so called "patches" that were used to allow the older games to run on XP (as those of us who DO have the original CnC/RA 95 version will know they won't, which REALLY pisses me off) are also wonderful enough to prevent them from working on some NT based OSs and now can't touch a non-windows OS with a stick.

True, but you do not have the right to a backup that you did not make.

i had that exact same problem when i first got TFD, and if you want to fix it reinstall windows. that 's what worked for me. but I do have a question: could you possibly be running an illegal version of Windows XP Pro? :p If so, that's the way to fix it.

Wow.....you guys are crazy. The game(s) work fine for me, but I did a sys wipe awhile ago and I'm too lazy to reinstall it..I don't know what kind of problems you are having. Try doing a sys wipe to get those viruses and crap off your comp. It may work...
