With techs advancing day after day here, hovering mechs and flying laser platforms being the obvious examples, hasn't anyone wished for the Golden Days of Warfare?
Thus, I introduce to you, the Spinoff. Unfortunately, Shifting Winds wasn't as successful as I had originally hoped (And I screwed up as far as direction, recreating events such as that is harder than starting a universe from the ground up believe it or not), and I've found myself posting with the purported nations not really doing much at the moment. I'll take all the blame, the idea was a bit awry to begin with and then the reform may have clouded it even for the people who had previously signed up, who were, as a result of the reorg, removed. Thus, without sacraficing my own history of originality, I arrive at the point where I believe in addition to a sequel, we should have a spinoff of CCW focusing on the past.
Now, probably about six of you have read fully through my informational PDF. Since I originally created it for RevoraWorld, which failed in about two seconds, I included some fictional, undefined events which I later gave a face and name to when I developed it as a "handbook" for further short stories which never were. One of these events was the Thirty Seven Years War, which, since the little PDF has been propagated without an edit from me, has materialised in Ali's posts and some others, as well as, since its supposed acceptance, one or two of my elaboratory posts.
Essentially, when I wrote my informational PDF, which I had originally decided would be restricted to myself until I realized I had done all the work for CCW registration already, I had planned for the Thirty Seven Years War to be the stage-setter for a series of short stories featuring ordinary people in the modern Atlantian Empire, a future conflict, some recollections of the previous war, and perhaps some memoir-like stories to be put together in a later compilation. Eventually, I lost a bit of enthusiasm for the idea, and haven't started it yet (Perhaps some time later in the year if I get the time). The war was supposed to be a changing effect, something that turned a nation quite willing to aggressively defend itself (Much like some aggressive democracies, and a bit like the US right about now) into a nation shocked by its own brutality, resulting in an immediate shift of the political climate. Some events I have included already in my abbreviated information PDF include the use of incendiary warheads against civilian targets, and a massive nuclear strike against the enemy in the form of the "Tiranian Republic" to the "west", which was originally going to be a fairly large landmass to the west across a fairly large ocean, replicating a Japan - United States conflict on a smaller scale, with the AE playing more of the Japan role.
The purpose of this thread is not only to explain things which may have baffled those who read my informational items, and to promote the quite in-depth informational PDF which I find quite entertaining, but also serves as a certain testing of the waters for a possible, as of yet untitled spinoff of CCW which I could perhaps head up documenting the events leading to the current situation, and ending about ten years before the start of CCW. That means this would include early, pre-WWII combat techniques developed in the 1920s, the standard WWII combat techniques developed by major countries, and later early and mid-Cold War tactics, technology, and techniques, a clear, epic illustration of the pre-CCW eras defined by an as of yet non-canon war mentioned in an obscure document hidden away in an obscure topic inside several obscure sub-boards on an obscure forum towards the bottom of the list of our obscure corner of the internet, which to much of the public at large, is quite obscure.

The mechanics of the RPG would be quite different from my earlier attempt, Shifting Winds, which attempted to force some events and allow others, but will not follow the outlines of CCW to the letter either. First, we will use the current open ended time system, and time will be pretty much fluid. Combat will be fairly closely moderated by myself, and I have a feeling crave would prefer to focus on CCW2 than the sideshow that I'm advocating. If the ATLAS System is developed enough for solid, stable use over a good amount of time (Nearly 4 decades!), we may use that pending member decisions.
Second, for those members of the current CCW who don't wish to play their current created nations in the spinoff, they can either be "given" away to people who do want to play them, and who can retain the same information, ideals, and principles (And it obviously won't affect your nation in CCW or CCW2), or they can be sold off at auction to the highest bidder. Anyone exceeding 50 USD can wire it via PayPal directly to spencer.matt [AT] gmail.com :p
As far as tech goes, tech will never exceed 1985 tech due to the timeline, so that means mostly we'll be dealing with the FUN parts of technical advances! Like... spending millions of dollars on jet engines (But the first ones with them will... rule), or the development of nuclear weapons and the Manhattan Project (I hear publishers are already lining up to get the memoirs of the lead scientists, kind of like Robert Oppenheimer).

To make this happen, what do we need?
1. Approval of the RPG by crave and of course, Ash. (Ash have fun in Rome, I'll take care of new RPG approvals I officially approve my own RPG, yay! :p)
2. People to sign up.
3. An official time-table as far as when to start, etc.
4. Official word on canonization or non-canonization. If the latter, we'll just make it a parallel universe per quantum mechanics ;)
5. Supporters. People to rally the troops. People to help me come up with ideas either via MSN or here in this topic. If you have a suggestion or anything, feel free to add me on MSN (The worst that can happen is you go into the "People Who Should Fall Onto Pointy Rocks" group, joining the illustrious ranks of Prime and the people who really anger me).

And here's to hoping that this is successful.

Well, here's to joining the "People Who Should Fall Onto Pointy Rocks" group! :p
I'd like to assist, that sounds fascinating, we're looking from like 1940 to when? Begining of the 90's?

Either 1940 - 1990 or 1930 - 1980. That's something for the planning group to decide, but fifty years seems reasonable for a nearly 40 year war.

Spence, I have four words for you.

I fucking love it.

I know the ubertech gets old sometimes, but I agree. We do need some ol' fashioned war. Operaion Flashpoint scenario, anyone? :umad: (I'd actually love to do that with Ash, though... The first AU vs. Belka shooting war, brushed under the rug, of course.)

If you need any help in setting it up, Spence, I'll do whatever I can. I'd like to get some of the AU's more detailed backstory down in this, and give other players a chance to write their own histories.

For a time frame I'd say something like a beginning of the Cold War era between Belka and the AU, similiar to how tensions were in the 50's and late 40's. I'd love to get some of the spy game in, as well... Then we progress to an 80's or 90's time frame, and end with something spectacular. If we really wanna serve Belka's name well we can have "The Belkan War" in 1995. :D

In any case, you've got my go. ;)

This is a good idea. I'd prefer 1930 - 1980, I was planning on outlining imperial Rivana in the pre-revolution period for some time now.

Count me in. Definatly.

I need the commie and monarch sections of my country's history to be filled in! I'm in. ;) Oh, and sorry about the HOUNDs. At least I didn't go with having them fully functional already. :umad: And, we need Ustio. :D

OLD SIG
When history witnesses a great change Razgriz reveals itself,
first as a dark demon. As a demon it uses it power to rain death upon the land,
and then it dies. However after a period of slumber Razgriz returns
As the demon sleeps, man turns on man.
Its own blood, and madness soon cover the earth.
From the depths of despair awaken the Razgriz.
Its raven wings ablaze in majestic light.
Amidst the eternal waves of time
From a ripple of change shall the storm rise
Out of the abyss peer the eyes of a demon
Behold the Razgriz, its wings of black sheath
The demon soars through the dark skies
Fear and Death trail its shadow beneath
Until Men united wield a hallowed sabre
In Final Reckoning, the beast is slain.

I'm not sure for myself personally. But I haven't read your entire post. I don't know anything about techs in what year. So I'm not sure whether I will or will not participate.

Will there also be a CCW2 that continues after the Great War btw?

I hope there'll be a future CCW one day, I want my aliens in. Sci-fi! :umad:

An intresting idea indeed.....

Go back to the 1970's I say the days when of when my dad told me of sitting in a bunker in West Germany in fear as my grandad scrambled to his F-4 to go shoot down commies. Ah those were the days of the British Forces Germany.

I don't know I was looking forward to CCW2 everyone is hyped up for that now, what about we do the future one then go back?

The "commies" would've shot you all down, that's why you all feared us so much :umad:

BTW I don't think having both simultaneously would interfere in anything.

The only problem of both might confuse people.

I don't think it will. We don't have any thick people playing this RPG, and nobody who would get confused wouldn't play this one in the first place.

All places and locations are going to be exactly the same unless noted otherwise, so probably no Ustio, unless someone RPs it in about the history of their country. Another thing, I'll very, very closely moderate the tech, so the furthest you're going to have in say, 1939, is 1945 tech but you'll obviously be lagging somewhere else. Tech will advance on the real world time scale, and I will moderate the development of nuclear weapons in countries.
The idea is the preliminary couple years will focus on tension, then the 37 Years War will happen and whatever little satellite conflicts come off of that, then any other wars that need to happen to fill out history. It's not going to be a driven storyline, it's pretty much going to be free-form until it needs to be directed for one reason or another.
Economics, I have decided, will be somewhat moderated. Pyth got away with murder in the early stages of CCW, not only did he recover from what would have been the depression to end all depressions in thirty minutes, but he was then able to start a new military program and somehow eventually have 2000 tanks. It's things like that that have effected a commoln sense rule. If you don't think it would work out economically, ask. Of course a fair deal of stretching is allowed, but you can't just come up with money out of nowhere. So far, I don't think anyone's really done that except Pyth, so it's just something to remember on the side.
That, and tech, are the big mechanical worries at the moment. Also, retaining a map updated with annexations and deals, and getting players to either play their countries, or other countries for those who don't participate. While it guarantees to be fun, the set up, and returning to status quo at the end guarantee to be tedious.

Did some research, I see Ustio's like... part of Belka. If ash likes the idea, sure.

Heh, It's so much easier to mention someone cheating when they're gone! :umad:

One question.

Are we supposed to know what tech was when, or will someone write a list of what was when or provide internet sources?

A lot of it can quickly be looked up.
www.globalsecurity.org covers nearly everything in the field of defense. The first cruise missiles would appear around the 60s, the first heatseekers in the late 50s, jet fighters in the early 50s. Most things like that can be found on the internet, and if you think it's in doubt, you can just provide a source (Nobody will yell at you if you do :umad:).

Well with the current speed the internet has here, I wouldn't call that quickly :umad: lol.. *feels like slapping Wow playing little brother*

But hmm I suppose. I just know about near to 0 about this subject. Tough to look for something if you don't know what to exactly look for, either :D. But then again.. heh we'll see what happens I suppose. I think freeform character RPs are slightly more my thing, compared to the ones with nation wars. I do like the diplomacy part and all, though.

Periods could work out well too... maybe set a historical year for certain advances, and they can't be developed until two years before that year.
I don't know how to deal with specific years though, since we're dealing with a specific start/stop time...
Although the idea of starting off with early 1930s tech is quite interesting.

Just a preliminary, short design outline document. I'd like to get this all solidified in a dedicated conversation on MSN some time in the next week. Just post here as to when your available if you're interested and we'll figure something out.

Blodo and I have been talking to some length about a possible news script and a website acting like a newspaper for news reporting. Articles would be able to be written by those with login names, E.G. everyone in the RPG, but editing of them would be restricted to administrators of the system. Would that be a good idea or not? Of course that's one of many things to be discussed when people can get together for a meeting.
