Overview
The Free Republic of Belka Major is the dominant militaristic power of the Four Nations of Belka. Though these four nations are not officially joined, they are generally referred to by this name to denote their chunk of the continent, a chunk always at loggerheads if not at all out war. With a massive military and overpolluting industrial complexes across the nation, the FRBM lives to produce and very little else. The capital city is Farbanti.
Government
Ruled by an absolute autocrat known as the Great Leader, the FRBM is in name only, for it is neither free nor a republic. It has been this way for a few hundred years now.
At present, the Great Leader is Sabin Serulevich Holdan, great-uncle of Asheliev Marakovich Holdan. He is actually one of the more benevolent Great Leaders of recent times, and has, despite massive taxation hikes, improved the standard of living dramatically by building roads and railways in vast amounts across his nation.
Geographic Location
Taking up central (and largest) point of the Belkan territory, it is a very temperate area. Originally mainly forested, much of this has been cleared for population and agriculture. Mountainous regions to the south afford good mining prospects, an opportunity not squandered by the government. The province of Nova Portens is heavily industrialised, as is much of Belka Major itself.
Music
Military band music and tomes of the FRBM's glory fill the people's ears, and their culture.
Education
Belka Major is unusual for the time in that it has a very high literacy rate. Given how industrialised and 'forward' the nation is, the general aim is to get the people educated in order that they help advance the Free Republic to give them an edge over their neighbours. At all stages, education is free. The only requirement is that, in return for the excellent education they are given, each graduate must remain living and working in the country for not less than ten years. Given that graduate jobs pay well, few complain.
Military
As a very militaristic nation, military service is compulsory for all able-bodied men of age. A five-year service is in place, however it is well-rewarded. University students tend to sit their service later, and are eligible for officer training. After the term is over, the men are planted into job roles according to need and vocation.
The military doctrine is fairly standard and rudimentary, however they are generally able to throw more men and vehicles into the mix than most of their competitors.
