As some side work to keep me occupied im currently working on a mod for Zero Hour in which im changing the way the General System works. Instead of choosing before the game, the choice is made between the 3 factions (USA, China and GLA) and then once in game the choice of which general to be is made at the Command Centre. For the ease of modding i've created 3 new factions (UK, Japan and GAU) which are essentially the originals but it easier to start again with a new renaming system for modding. Idealy i'd like to add AI to the mod so that it is compatible offline. Due to the nature of the Mod, each faction has 3 of each structure (3 command centre's, 3 barracks) one for each General.

My question is, Is the AI capable of making a choice at the start of the Game as to which General and build the appropriate structures, since the Build List for each faction would have to incorporate each of the 3 General's Building's and depending on its choice of General, it would depend on what it would build or can i make a separate build list for each "General" that was activated once its choice of General at the Command Centre had been made.

Sorry if its a little unclear, but I havent looked into much of scripting new factions into the AI so im not entierly sure how it works.

Should be possible. What do you have in your playertemplate.ini ? If there is only one "default faction" where you have to select further factions later on, you have to make a new player in the player list for every available choice - with the appropriate default faction of course. Once that is done you have to tell the player to use that commandbutton ability (I assume it is a science) and start building.

The build list will be a bit of a pain but maybe you can make a huge build list for the default faction that incorporates all the buildings of the smaller factions. If the scripts reference the correct structures it SHOULD work out right though you can never trust the build list..

In PlayerTemplate.ini i added 3 new factions (UK, Japan and GAU) and then for each of those factions, in game the command centre has a choice of 3 Generals which uses Command_Upgrade and then a ReplaceObject which replacing the Generic Command Centre with the General's Command Centre which then can produce Dozers.

You make it sound like its doable with the huge build list which i thought would be the method i'd have to use so once i've coded it all i'll have a gander at adding the AI to it. Thanks for your help.

Great, tell us if it worked. This will be an exotic AI, and I like this kind of variety :)
