@ blaat: It's a matter of curiosity on points like, what amount of chicks compared to blokes visit the forums, who admits it, etc. It's not related to personality at all.

Theres also the point that genders play a rather large role in societty, and thats in nearly every society, like it or not girls and boys do think and act differently due to hormones and the way they're raised. in short the need to know that sort of thing is just about hardwired into us.

Well yeah but not every parents raise their children in a stereotypical way. And not everyone has the same amount of hormones. Both genders have in fact amounts of testosterone and oestrogen, just different amount. It depends on the person how much they have of each.

The need to know peoples gender may be 'hardwired' in us, like you say.

For one thing, the demographics are interesting (ie, M/F ratio). As is knowing a little bit about each member. It doesn't matter too much if we don't know, but then, it doesn't matter at all if we DO know either.

Why do you have to make a big deal out of something this innocuous, Blaat? It's not as if he's suddenly going to single you out because you're a female. Indeed, it makes no difference, except that if this were a male only forum we might be less restrained than we are because we know you could possibly (and very well probably will) read it. Other than that, common curiosity as to who's male and who isn't is there...

You say to me often people don't understand you. But is it any wonder when you're so resistant to give out even the most basic information of your gender? Myself? Take a wild guess. There's been some confusion over the first two letters of my name. I can assure you there is one S in there, if you've all gone blind. Normally it's the n00bs who screw up, then they get impaled and propped up on a stick like G10.

And as far as gender in conversation goes, normally, except in extreme cases of feminity or really butch manliness, you can definitely tell the gender of the person you're speaking to. It's just something you want to know so you can... ah... choose your words carefully to avoid situations where this discussion comes up.
