"I'm Cain," the Belkan replied, "and I do not think I shall be going down today. Darkwave? Do I hear a second on that?"

A short crackled pause.

"Aye."

Without warning, Cain ducked out of the way of his squadron leader as he tore forward, guns blazing, at full throttle towards the Aesanian pilot.

A laugh came from Darkwave's channel. "It's funny. While you're busy trying your hardest to shoot us down, the rest of your flyboys are getting swatted...and our ships are leaving harbour. I don't think your mission was to hit us. Come on, boys. We're almost out of ammo anyway. It's been fun, Pixy."

The Belkan aces bugged out. There was no way the Aesanians could follow them. They'd not only be court-marshalled for going off-mission, but they had fuel and the ammo they'd be wasting to think of.

They'd screwed with these guys long enough, and wasted a few of their precious missiles. The fleet had been bought enough time against the aces to gather some momentum, and several ships were now running flat-out towards the Aesanian carriers. The battleship Tanager was already in range of the one Galm Squadron had hit earlier, and had now begun to shell the shit out of it.

"Admiral, enemy ships in range!"
"Take us out. Lieutenant!"
"Yes, sir."
"Contact Patal... I want three Wyverns armed with B61 tac-nuke munitions immediately. That fleet of ships is going down."
"Aye, sir!"

The captain looked around the bridge as the battle began to heat up a notch.

"Petty officer... Take us to theatre DEFCON 1."

OOC: That's a cheap way to do it... :p Though in theory you'd only need one tac-nuke to rape the entire harbour

OOC: I know. :p I'm not gonna do it, anyway. Command is going to deny the request after the Megalith incident. They want to get revenge conventionally. The sub squadron in the area is going to move in and force the Scinfaxi to surface by causing extreme damage, thereby forcing it to undergo punishment from the combined air force and give it the glory it deserves in death. (I always loved the Scinfaxis... Even if they were pains in the ass to keep climbing then descending.)

Then the subs will move in on the fleet and just begin ripping across while the carriers escape, their escorts creating a shield between the Belkans and the carriers.

Besides... You've only found two of my six carriers... :p There's still four out there on the seas launching fighters that you have to find. And the ocean is a big place.

((OOC: Can I sink just one of the six? :p I've been shitting it up with the Tanager already. By the way, remember you can use the Arkbird to force the Scinfaxi to surface...but only by letting me fire first so you can triangulate it. Until I do that, the Scinfaxi could just be any other sub to a Sonobuoy.

And the best tactic I found in the game was to use UGBL or similar. But then I am a master with the pipper...it doesn't take range into account. Just get the circle where you want the bombs to go...from 20k feet it'll still waste the bastard :p ))

((OOC: Meh, I said I wasn't going to use the Arkbird as an offensive weapon, since I want to keep the illusion that my superweapons are strictly defensive, while your's are meant for offensives. You know?

And yeah, you can sink one. Hell, sink two. I'm scrapping most of them anyway since I plan on stealing the Scinfaxi technology (or bribing for it :p ) and improving upon it somewhat with my supercavitating research and other such fields. The CVSX class. :p

I'll be signing on MSN in a little bit. :) ))

OOC: Sorry, fella XD Pub is more important than RPG guild, as you can imagine for an 18-year-old :p
Go ahead and use the Arkbird to surface the Scinfaxi. It's more appropriate given the nature of things.

The Tanager pulverised the main deck of the carrier it was targeting. A six-gun salvo rendered its runway completely inoperable, and put a huge hole in the side of the great vessel. Taking on water, the carrier began to sink.

It was amazing just how successfully the Belkans had overcome the impetus of the Aesanian attack, to be able to counterattack against the Aesanians.

"Scinfaxi, the Fleet Admiral yelled down his COM channel, "sweep those damned fighters from our skies. Give our ships some clear air to take down those Aesanian vessels. We'll escape Comberth yet!"

Ballistic missiles erupted from the surface of Comberth Harbour. Four of them. Arkbird couldn't take them all. Plus, as they went up, they each split into four, giving a full sixteen warheads for the 'Bird to aim at. When they went up, they went up with an impenetrable deathcloud.

OOC: Heh, I understand. You'd probably die here in the states, seeing the legal drinking age is 21. :p I'll post IC later or tomorrow, seeing as I've been having some RL problems, and am to the point of wanting to kill a few animals or small children to relieve my rage. :) I don't think RPing the death of my own sailors will help, either. :p

The Arkbird frantically fired constantly to destroy the missiles, but some managed to pass through the Arkbird's defense. Luckily, most of the pilots had already ascended, having known all to well what the Scinfaxi could do. The fear factor had been all but eliminated, pilots no longer feeling as if they were fighting an invincible force. They were, however, still annoyed at the submarine's constant attempts to blow them from the skies.

"Sir, we've lost the Loyalty!"
"What!? God fucking damnit!"

Captain Nicholas Anderson watched in horror as the Loyalty began its journey to become one with the ocean floor, many of her crew jumping into the blue waters of the region.

"That's it... Open a channel with Arkbird."
"Aye."

He cleared his throat as he heard the crackling come through.

"Captain Anderson, this is Arkbird awaiting your target orders. Sorry about that last volley... There were just too many, sir."
"Don't fret, son. Now, do you have the coordinates where the Scinfaxi was when she launched?"
"Yes, sir."
"Well, I'm in contact with our subs in the area. They say its moved only a bit. Transmitting grid coordinates now."
"Recieved sir."
"Blow that fucker out of the ocean."
"Right away, sir."

Anderson watched the horizon as a bright flash was seen, a beam of light slicing down through the air and hitting the water with great force. The Scinfaxi had been struck by the White Bird's beam, the damage forcing an emergency blow as the ballast tanks would be emptied.

Anderson watched this emotionlessly, waiting for the Scinfaxi to show itself. When he saw the sleek figure sitting on the surface of the water, he had a simple order.

"Kill the fucker."
"Sir, message from command!"
"What?"
"Use of nuclear arms denied, sir."
"Damnit... Looks like we still have to kick their asses the old fashioned way."

He moved to pick up the speaker on his microphone, watching the battle play out before him.

"All Aesanian units, this is Captain Anderson of the UNS Justice. It's been quite the battle people. The Belkans have turned the tide quite well, and have managed to exit the harbor. But the difference today is an Aesanian victory is what we desire. And an Aesanian victory is what we shall achieve. These beasts will not lay a hand on another nation, and I will make sure of that personally. As I have heard, Admiral Donitz was aboard the Loyalty when she fell to the bottom. Therefore, I will be taking command of Task Force Fimbulwinter. And I order you to do your birth right. I order you all to kick the fuck out of these Belkans. Countless innocent lives depend on it. Do this not for yourselves. Not even for your nation. But do this for your family. For the mailman. For that guy across the street you don't really like. This battle will decide the fates of millions. And we cannot allow them to gain another inch on this ocean. Fight on with courage none have seen before, and you will be immortalized as a hero for your exploits. But forget about that. Do this for what really matters. Do this for the world. Do it for humanity. These Belkans will not triumph. Or it is the death of that which we all love and hold so close."

As he set down the mic, cheers could be heard on the various squadron frequencies as they fought on with such courage, it was unimaginable simple pilots could be so selfless. When one man was killed, four would move to take his place as squadrons mixed together and fought as one to defeat the Belkans, putting aside their squadron rivalries and fighting instead as an Aesanian unit. When a pilot died, they no longer had a moment of silence on the carrier of their origin. Instead, they avenged him or her with such ferocity that even the survivors of the ship which had been sunk were not spared, some of the pilots going as far as dropping cluster munitions over the stranded Belkans in the water. They fought on with rage... With revenge in their minds... And with unspeakable courage in their hearts. This battle would be won, or the world would never again see freedom. And the second option was unthinkable.

The battle raged on... Literally.

((OOC: Cue the climax of "Unsung War" ))

The Scinfaxi had been blasted and forced to surface, while the Belkan stragglers still fought furiously to try and make it out of the harbour. Very few made it.

Many Belkan officers were shocked that their so-called Invincible Fleet had been literally cut in half.

But the Belkans weren't about to go down without a fight. The Scinfaxi still had a compliment of (formerly Atlantian-design) F-35 fighters and UAVs, which loosed in a swarm like wasps defending their nest. Sadly, however, the Belkan air superiority was by no means whatsoever guaranteed. One Aesanian fighter was able to break out of the ensuing furball and loosed every weapon at his disposal at the hull of the massive submarine. Even the Air-to-Air missiles were launched dumbly at the craft, though all weapons scored at least a collateral hit.

The Scinfaxi was listing and taking on water.

"Abandon ship! I repeat, abandon ship!"

The Aesanians pushed home their advantage. The remaining destroyers and frigates suffered badly, as did the submarines Beowulf Pi and Beowulf Nu. Their pens, and much of the harbour, were left in smoking ruins. The Aegir Fleet was not completely destroyed, though a good third and then some of her total fleet size, plus the ballistic sub-carrier Scinfaxi had been annihilated. The rest were the less-good fighter pilots who had also been taken down in defence of the fleet. It was enough to effectively halve the operational power of the Aegir Fleet. Aesanian losses? One carrier, and a hell of a lot of fighters.

It was a complete victory for the Aesanians, and what remained of the Aegir fleet limped off to another port. It would probably not be long before the Atlantians appeared at Comberth themselves.

((OOC: That last sentence is to do with what I'm about to do about Op Hyena))

((OOC: Excellent. Now on to Operation: Shattered Skies  This one I've been looking forward to.))

"We've got them on the run!"
"Let them go.", Anderson said with pride. "We've broken the Invincible Fleet. That's what we came here to do. And we couldn't have done it without the incredible courage of our pilots."

Cheers could be heard around the fleet as fighters returned to their carriers, the pilots celebrated as heros. Crow team landed on their home carrier of Justice, Captain Anderson there to personally meet them.

"Welcome back, boys. Damn fine job. We won.", he said with a wide grin. The battle had been won, but the war was not yet over. There was no doubt in the men's minds, however, that the war would end similiarly. Spirits were high as Task Force Fimbulwinter sailed into the sunset...

OOC: Well get on with it then! Don't forget, you also need to land somewhere. And that the Comona Island is almost entirely covered by an Air Force base and a rocket launch pad.

IC:

Citadel Belka,
Farbanti

"They what!?"
"The Aesanians struck Comberth Harbour straight on, Prime Minister," Defence Minister Alkasar stated. He was the third Defence Minister in as many months. His job was either hotly contested, or the most beadily observed, "we did all we could, but at least a third of the ships and a good half of the pilots are gone. And the Scinfaxi-"
"Don't you dare to tell me the Scinfaxi has been destroyed, Luca..."
"Yes, sir. It has. The Fleet Admiral did everything in his power to stop them. Galm Squadron took down fifteen fighters on their own...and the Tanager hit one of their aircraft carriers. I believe it was the..Loyalty, sir. I think it was a retaliatory attack from when we destroyed their new super-dreadnoughts. Many of our remaining Fleets are moving to intercept and engage Aesanian vessels wherever they encounter them. The Centro Ocean will be fought over to the bitter end, Prime Minister."
"What of the Operation Hyena."
"Not good, sir. The incapable commander has been dealt with, but the Atlantians have destroyed the invasion forces...the Eleventh Army has been all but destroyed-"
"WHAT!?" Cheroklev shrieked. Veins were popping out of the side of his head and his neck, and his eyes burned with an insane rage. "This is ABSURD! How can we lose to a worthless country such as that! I want the Tyrans to bombard them with enough Targon to bring about a world pandemic for a hundred years! I want that Atlantian turncoat slime installed as the government, and I want the cities to be painted with their BLOOD!"

Then, as if he had an epiphany, the veins retracted, and his eyes widened. He talked in a rational tone.
"What of Project SOLG?"
"It only awaits being launched, sir. Then we will have something to better the Arkbird."

SOLG. A great orbital death machine. Racked with a hundred high-yield ICB nuclear projectiles. The great part about the SOLG was its firing mechanism. The ICBPs were not missiles; they didn't burn propellent. The SOLG used something not unlike a cannon to fire the projectile into the upper atmosphere, where it would guide itself using drag-fins to land wherever it would. Completely untraceable to anti-missile means. It could not be picked up by noise, thermodetection or any other means. It would obliterate the Aesanian threat, and Cheroklev would be raised as a god upon the blasted Earth.

"Prepare it for launch immediately. They will suffer the great might of Belka, and they will beg us for mercy as their cities burn."

I was going to use Task Force Fimbulwinter since they were already in the general area, and they were the only forces I could send on such short notice. They still have a healthy enough amount of fighters to put up the largest furball of the war, and maybe I'll bring in another carrier from the Exoan fleet to replace Loyalty.))

((Okay. I'm actually planning on landing small forces near Atlantia and Clandonia at the same time to assist them in fighting you, then push in. In order to divide your forces more.

That, and I want to distract you air force over Comona so I can land at Clandonia with little to no air resistance, since most of my carrier cover will be attempting to prevent SOLG from launching. However, I figure I can get some air support to Atlantia through Blaglug and Sand Island, but as Ali tells me he still has most of his navy so that should make air cover there easier.

I'd like to dicuss it with you over MSN before I start Shattered Skies, though.))
